  • Pay Rate: $79.00/hour, depending on experience
  • Contract Length: 1 year
  • Location: McArthur River, Saskatchewan  
    • Fly In Fly Out Camp accommodations provided
    • Rotation (2 weeks in-2 weeks out, 11 hours a day)
    • Company Charter Flights provided – Departing from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Raise is currently hiring a Safety Specialist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client a Canadian global leader in exploration, mine engineering, and environmental protection

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description 

The Safety Specialist in this role will ensure that our construction activities adhere to the highest standards of safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) and will work closely with the Construction Management Team (CMT) and contractors, proactively identifying potential hazards, monitoring the implementation of safe work procedures, and fostering a strong safety culture on site. This role demands a proactive individual with excellent communication, problem-solving, and influencing skills, coupled with a thorough understanding of safety regulations and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with construction management team (CMT) and contractors
  • Responsible for ensuring all safety, health and environmental procedures and work instructions are followed
  • Conduct workplace inspections with CMT, focusing on behavioural observations
  • Reviews field level risk assessments (FLRAs) and daily contact cards for quality adherence
  • May conduct and monitor SHEQ related training for construction management team (CMT) personnel and contractors and assess qualifications of construction contractor personnel
  • Participate in job hazard assessments, safety meetings, toolbox meetings, constructability reviews, project kick-off meetings, upon request
  • Conducts daily and weekly job site inspections as per procedure
  • Identifies and reviews various health and safety concerns specific to the work site
  • Investigates injuries, accidents and near misses as per site corrective action processes
  • Ensure timely notification occurs of significant events
  • Monitors quality of incident investigations and ensures effective and appropriate corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner

Qualifications

  • Intermediate Level (4-9 years): Minimum of 4-9 years of progressive experience in a safety-related role within a construction, industrial, or mining environment.
  • Senior Level (10+ years): Minimum of 10+ years of comprehensive experience in a safety-related role within a construction, industrial, or mining environment, with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and local safety regulations and legislation.
  • Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and control methodologies.
  • Familiarity with incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis.
  • Proficiency in conducting workplace inspections and behavioural observations.
  • Experience in reviewing and providing feedback on risk assessments and safe work procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • A degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Preferred:
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation.
  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO) designation (as indicated).
  • Specific safety-related certifications (e.g., Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, First Aid/CPR Instructor, etc.).
  • Formal training in incident investigation (e.g., TapRooT®, ICAM).
  • Training in behavioral-based safety programs.

Additional Information 

  • Contractors are expected to travel to Saskatoon for chartered flights to camp sites. 
  • As this is a safety Sensitive Role Pre-access substance testing will be required
