Your Role: Senior Food Scientist

Reporting to the Director of Research and Development, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the company delivers high-quality, cost-efficient products that align with their exceptional quality standards. Your expertise will contribute to new product development, product duplication, and innovation, using efficient processes and ingredients.

 

Key Responsibilities

Project Development: Define project parameters, including price, labeling, kosher certification, and other requirements.

Reverse Engineering: Analyze target products from grocery stores or restaurants as benchmarks for duplication projects.

Ingredient Evaluation: Review technical data, including specifications, pricing, nutritional information, and kosher certifications.

Formulation & Testing:

  • Develop prototypes and evaluate flavor, texture, color, and overall appearance.
  • Conduct aqueous solution and final application tests.
  • Perform pH checks and adjust drying agents as needed.
  • Production Oversight: Ensure first-batch production matches lab standards.
  • Oversee mixing processes, ingredient weights, and labeling accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot production challenges and collaborate with teams for resolutions.

Customer Collaboration: Work directly with clients to refine and achieve desired outcomes.

Continuous Improvement: Explore cost-saving opportunities, optimize formulas, and stay updated on new ingredients and industry trends.

Food Safety Compliance: Monitor and uphold rigorous food safety standards.

 

The Details

This is a permanent, full-time leadership opportunity based in the Fort Mill, SC area, working on-site at the manufacturing facility.

What You Bring

Education: Bachelor’s Degree (4 years) in Food Science or related field (Food Science Degree strongly preferred).

Experience:

  • 5–10 years of reverse engineering experience.
  • Proven track record in product duplication and new product development.
  • Proficiency in food safety practices and procedures.
  • Experience with Poultry and Other Meat Products (Meat Science): Practical experience working with poultry and various other meat products is essential.
  • Extensive Bench-Top Formulation Experience: hands-on expertise in developing, testing, and optimizing formulations (e.g., chemical mixtures, recipes, or prototypes).
  • Experience with Breaders and Coating Systems (Preferred)

Knowledge: Strong foundation in food science and food safety practices.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office and technical documentation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proven track record of meeting deadlines and exceeding customer expectations.

Mindset: Adaptable, detail-oriented, and innovative with a commitment to excellence.
