Job Overview
- We are seeking a qualified and experienced individual to provide geodetic expertise for global conventional oil & gas exploration, appraisal, and development projects.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for working with multi-discipline teams (wells/geoscience/service companies) to apply the appropriate Geodesy and Geomatics techniques, technologies, and procedures for analysis with integrity and to a high standard of work ethic.
- Responsibilities
- Integration and analysis of geodetic systems and positioning data in support of various business units.
- Advanced understanding of Static and Dynamic datums and their relationship with the ITRF datums.
- Advanced understanding of Time Dependent Transformations and their relationship with Dynamic datums.
- Administration of and expert-level knowledge of the Geomatics Solutions GeoRepository.
- Expert-level knowledge of Coordinate Reference Systems and Datums.
- Expert-level knowledge of Petrel and Studio coordinate catalogs.
- Possess good working knowledge of programming languages and algorithms such as C+, Python, MATLAB, etc., and the use of APIs.
- Has a very good understanding of physical oceanography as related to subsea positioning (CTD profiles, tides, sound velocity & propagation).
- Understands various survey techniques to provide geodetic control (e.g., Satellite/Theodolite/Levelling traverses, Reference station baselines, etc.), including least squares network adjustments and residual / RMS accuracies and orthometric height determination.
- 2-D and 3-D seismic survey positioning support.
- Experience in QC and resolving survey issues with geophysical/geotechnical surveys, rig positioning and subsea construction activities (e.g., topographic, levelling, utility, and nearshore interface surveys, USBL and LBL acoustic systems), able to verify the datum transformation and map projection settings in a Vessel Navigation System against project requirements, ensuring grid convergence is applied appropriately.
- Good understanding of data analytics.
- Vendor contracting, supervision, and evaluation.
- Knowledge and application of internal requirements and government regulatory requirements.
- Report findings through regular meetings and written reports.
- Liaise with Geodetic Principle and other team members for balanced workload and optimal application of individual skill sets.
- Adopt safe work practices and use equipment provided for health and safety purposes in accordance with company safety policies.
- Conduct operations and activities in accordance with company environmental policies, Codes of Environmental Practice and environmental guidelines.
- Other duties as required at the direction of the Geohazards Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Relevant Tertiary degree in Geodesy and practical experience in Geodetic expert-level roles with exposure to Acoustic, Seismic, and GNSS positioning disciplines.
- 10 years or more of experience in a Geodetic support role in the Oil and Gas industry.
- Deep industry knowledge within the Geodetic discipline; able to design, produce, and execute deliverables aligned to that discipline.
- Proficient in more than one technology/application providing spatial analysis capabilities (ESRI Products including ArcPro, Petrel, Studio, Global Mapper).
- Perform routine geospatial analysis, computations, and adjustments.
- Capable of working independently on a variety of survey and geodesy-related tasks with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in independent quality control checks on vendor reports and data deliverables.
- Candidates should have more than 3 years of professional experience in one or more areas pertinent to Geodetics.
- Demonstrated leadership, adaptability, teamwork, excellent communication skills in English, and a commitment to higher safety and ethical standards. In addition, candidates should be able to work effectively within and across diverse technical teams.
