- Pay Rate: $62.15/hour, depending on experience

Raise is currently hiring an Intermediate Piping Engineer – Fire Protection on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our client is a major electrical utility supporting hydroelectric generation facilities and critical power infrastructure across British Columbia.
The successful candidate will join the Generation Stations Mechanical Engineering Balance of Plant team and support capital projects, condition assessments, asset management initiatives, operational support, and engineering design services.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The Intermediate Piping Engineer – Fire Protection will focus on the design, analysis, and implementation of fire protection systems for hydroelectric generating stations and associated infrastructure. The role involves developing safe, practical, and cost-effective engineering solutions while supporting projects from conceptual design through construction, commissioning, and turnover.
The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering, operations, maintenance, construction, project management, and other technical teams to deliver reliable fire protection and piping systems.
Responsibilities
- Fire Protection & Piping Design: Lead the design and development of fire protection piping systems for hydroelectric generating stations, including sprinkler systems, special hazard protection systems, water supply systems, and associated piping networks.
- Engineering Design & Analysis: Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering designs and perform hydraulic calculations, water supply evaluations, system performance analyses, and engineering assessments.
- Engineering Documentation: Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, reports, technical specifications, construction packages, and procurement support documentation.
- Professional Engineering: Act as a Professional of Record where required, preparing and sealing engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and reports.
- Field & Site Support: Conduct field investigations, site assessments, hazard analyses, code compliance reviews, risk-based evaluations, and construction quality monitoring.
- Project Support: Support project planning, cost estimating, scheduling, construction support, commissioning, and turnover activities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, protection and controls, operations, maintenance, construction management, and project management teams.
- Consultant & Contractor Management: Review and accept the work of external consultants and contractors on behalf of the client.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve engineering practices, standards, design tools, and work processes.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in industrial, utility, power generation, or heavy industrial environments.
- Proven experience in piping design, from conceptual design through construction and commissioning.
- Knowledge of fire protection systems, hydraulic calculations, and water supply evaluations.
- Strong knowledge of applicable ASME and NFPA codes, including B31.1, B31.3, NFPA 13, 15, and 20.
- Proficiency with CAD and piping/fire protection design software.
- Strong analytical, communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Experience with one or more of:
- AutoCAD / AutoCAD Plant 3D
- Navisworks / Autodesk ReCap
- AutoSPRINK, HydraCAD, ELITE, HASS, or equivalent.
- Nice to Haves
- Knowledge of NFPA 850, 22, and 25 and BC regulatory requirements.
- Experience with 3D modelling, laser scanning, and point-cloud integration.
- Fire protection experience in hydroelectric, utility, or heavy industrial facilities.
- Experience with construction/commissioning support and Engineer/Professional of Record responsibilities.
- Knowledge of performance-based fire protection design, condition assessments, and asset management.
- Familiarity with digital engineering sign/seal technology is an asset.
- Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
- P.Eng. or P.Geo. with EGBC, or eligible for registration.
Additional Information
- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
- Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
