Telecom Network Engineer
- Pay Rate: $107/hour, depending on experience

Raise is currently hiring a Telecom Network Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada
Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.
Description
The Senior Telecom Network Engineer in this role will be responsible for developing, designing, and delivering safe, high-quality engineering solutions for 's complex and expansive telecommunications infrastructure. This position requires a strong technical background, independent judgment, and a commitment to professional engineering standards, while also fulfilling Project Engineer duties and providing technical leadership to peers.
Responsibilities
The key accountabilities for the Senior Telecom Network Engineer are:
- Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including developing designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications for projects and operations.
- Assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.
- Resolve highly technical and unique design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and analysis, exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs to support successful operations and/or project completion at .
- Participate in ’s engineering practice by conducting independent studies and analysis, contributing to the development of technical standards, exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs, and making decisions related to methods and designs as well as providing guidance and advice to other engineering professionals to develop future capability at .
- Deliver exceptional customer service by communicating with stakeholders and performing activities such as defining the scope of engineering services to be provided, establishing the basic design criteria, approving all related technical documentation, and assessing and reporting on work progress against standards, objectives, and specifications to support completion of projects safely, with quality, within budget and on time.
- Prepare signed and sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and design practices.
- Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field and undertakes field reviews as required by EGBC.
- As "Owner's Engineer", review external service providers' engineering designs to ensure technical compliance to Standards, good design practices and constructability requirements.
- Comply with Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) Practices, Engineering Design Practices, and meets all regulatory compliance requirements applicable to their role.
- Provide guidance and instructions, advice and technical guidance to other engineers and technical support staff.
- Conduct peer reviews of other designers to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results, and adherence to accepted engineering practices.
- Resolve site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
- Maintain complete project documentation with respect to the design and construction, including all completion packages, records, and requirements.
- Maintain appropriate commitments to project teams, and coordinates design activities with multidisciplined project team members.
- Fulfill functional role of Project Engineer as assigned, and coordinates design activities with multi-disciplined project team.
Qualifications
- 8 years of progressive and comprehensive engineering experience in the design and engineering of telecommunications systems
- Prior experience with IP/MPLS, LTE, WiMAX, DACS, SONET, microwave systems, teleprotection circuits, antennas and towers, grounding, and other telecom technologies will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge and understanding of IP Networking
- Understanding of Telecom Transport system ( MPLS , SONET, Microwace, LTE , 5G, Satellite systems)
- Experience in working with Power Utilities ( nice to have)
- Experience with field reviews, resolving site queries, and providing technical support during the construction phase.
- Experience acting as the "Owner's Engineer" or in a similar capacity, reviewing external designs against internal standards.
- Proactive in ongoing professional and personal development activities such as self-study, attendance at technical and administrative courses and participation in technical and professional societies.
- Excellent leadership, communications (verbal and written), technical writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills are required.
- Education and Skills
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.
- P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
- Good understanding of project and task management processes.
Additional Information
- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
- Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
