Cassandra Database Engineer

  • Pay Rate: $120/hour on W2
  • Contract Length: 12 months with a high possibility of extension and/or conversion

  • Work Type: Hybrid – In-Office (Mon, Wed & Thu is a must)

Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Job Overview:

  • The Cassandra Database Engineer is a hands-on NoSQL database operations specialist, with deep expertise in Cassandra database administration.
  • This role focuses on production database operations, not architecture or design, and requires strong experience supporting high-availability environments in public cloud platforms (AWS and/or GCP).

Responsibilities

  • Perform database performance analysis and production operations reviews
  • Manage day-to-day database operational activities, including:
    • Incident response
    • Database alert monitoring and resolution
    • Coordination with third-party support teams
  • Deploy and maintain database monitoring solutions
  • Build, test, and maintain backup, restore, and recovery procedures
  • Execute database platform:
    • Deployment and installation
    • Patching and upgrades
    • Change management and third-party software updates
  • Identify and implement database hardening procedures across:
    • Public cloud
    • Hosted environments
    • On-prem platforms
  • Provide database expertise and operational support to:
    • Technical support teams
    • Project delivery teams
  • Participate in:
    • Platform reviews and tuning exercises
    • Security evaluations
    • Benchmarking activities
    • Proactive recommendations for production improvements

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma with 8+ years of hands-on Cassandra administration (Administration only – not architecture or design).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science preferred, with 8–10 years of experience
  • NoSQL Databases:
      • 8–10 years of Cassandra administration experience
  • Strong experience with public cloud database deployment, management, and migration
  • Expert-level understanding of database standards, processes, and deployment methodologies
  • Extensive experience supporting high-SLA, high-performance production platforms
  • Proven ability managing change in production environments (cloud, hosted, on-prem)
  • Expertise in high-availability database architectures
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and proactive problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (fluent English required)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Cassandra administration expertise
  • DataStax Enterprise Cassandra experience (strong plus)
  • Strong production troubleshooting and operations background
  • Linux operating system expertise (required)
  • Experience with public cloud tools and CI/CD:
    • GitLab
    • Terraform
    • Datadog
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and Docker
  • Experience with database performance benchmarking and tuning

Special Position Requirements

  • Ability to multitask and respond quickly to production emergencies
  • Comfortable managing tight deadlines and shifting priorities
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Experience working during:
      • Outages
      • Crisis situations
      • War room / incident response scenarios
