  • Location: Burnaby, BC; hybrid on site 2 – 3 days a week

Raise is currently hiring a Specialist Project Engineer – Transmission – Stations team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

 

Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Specialist Project Engineer – Transmission – Stations to provide innovative engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium- to high-complexity utility projects. This role requires deep technical leadership, strong judgment, and the ability to deliver safe, high-quality engineering solutions on time and within budget.

The Specialist Project Engineer – Transmission – Stations applies advanced engineering knowledge to develop designs, solve complex technical problems, guide multidisciplinary teams, and support major utility projects and operations. The role contributes to engineering standards, ensures quality and compliance, and provides expert advice across engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop safe, high-quality engineering solutions for medium- to highly complex utility projects.
  • Interpret engineering specifications and resolve complex and unusual design or field issues through independent analysis.
  • Manage safety, cost, quality, and schedule objectives, including progress reporting, schedule coordination, and contractor payment recommendations.
  • Lead and guide multidisciplinary design teams, including protection, control, and telecom systems.
  • Contribute to engineering practice by developing standards, conducting independent studies, and mentoring other engineers.
  • Define scopes of engineering services, establish design criteria, approve technical documentation, and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Make technical decisions affecting engineering design bases, criteria, concepts, and resource planning.
  • Build strong relationships with project managers and delivery partners.

Must Have Qualifications

  • 10 years of relevant engineering experience; experience in electrical utility or substation engineering.
  • 4+ years leading multi-discipline design teams; experience with protection, control, and telecom systems.
  • Registered or eligible P.Eng./P.Geo. with EGBC; Permit to Practice (personal or firm) required.
  • Strong utility engineering background with understanding of transmission systems and multi-discipline project interactions.
  • Strong project engineering/project management experience; PMP certification required.
  • Ability to make complex technical decisions and manage engineering resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of transmission line design.
  • Public-sector or regulated-environment experience.

Education and Skills:

  • Engineering degree in electrical, civil, structural, or mechanical (recognized by Canadian universities).
  • Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards.
  • Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Digital Sign and Seal capability (Notarius) may be required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent relationship-management and stakeholder-engagement skills.

Additional Information

  • EGBC registrants will work under the client’s Professional Practice Management Plan (Quality Management Pillar).
  • All project documentation will be retained by the client in accordance with EGBC bylaws.
