Job Overview
The client is seeking an experienced Sr Engineering Specialist High Voltage & Interconnection to provide technical leadership for utility-scale power generation projects, including solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). In this senior role, you will oversee critical project components such as transmission lines and high-voltage (HV) electrical systems, ensuring reliable and compliant interconnection of power generation facilities to utility power grids. Your expertise will drive innovation, system reliability, and regulatory compliance in the development of renewable energy infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

* Lead design, construction, and commissioning activities and support the development of Generator Interconnection Agreements (GIAs) with utilities, Independent System Operators (ISOs), and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs).
* Review and optimize HV/MV substation, collection, transmission line, and equipment specifications, including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and battery storage systems.
* Conduct or review power system studies, including power flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, protection coordination, and grounding, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and company specifications.
* Serve as the technical interface between internal teams and external stakeholders, including consultants, EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, and vendors.
* Support HV equipment procurement by preparing technical bid packages, reviewing vendor submittals, optimizing equipment selection, and contributing domain expertise to sourcing decisions.
* Provide technical leadership and oversight during construction and commissioning, including office- and site-based quality control, acceptance testing, and integration of systems.
* Contribute to project reporting and tracking of key milestones, proactively identifying and escalating technical or execution risks.

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Professional Engineer (PE – US) or P.Eng. (Canada) required, with strong preference for Electrical Engineering.
* Minimum 8 years of experience, preferred 10-15+ years of progressively responsible technical and informal leadership experience.
* Direct experience with utility-scale power system electrical design, integration, and interconnection across multiple North American ISOs.
* Broad experience including both field/site and office-based engineering work.
* Collaborative mindset, balancing technical expertise with cost, schedule, and full lifecycle asset considerations.
* Excellent communication skills to lead meetings and coordinate with internal and external partners.
* Valid driver’s license required; verification through a motor vehicle record check prior to hire.
* Ability to work primarily in an office environment with periodic field visits
* Willingness to travel approximately 10%, increasing to 25% during peak periods.
* Physical capabilities including light to moderate lifting (up to 20 pounds), kneeling, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, prolonged sitting or standing, and computer work.
* Mental capabilities to understand and apply complex instructions, solve problems, prioritize work, make moderate-impact decisions, prepare routine documentation, and communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
