CAD Drafter
- Pay Rate: $31.50 to $38.42/hour, depending on experience
- Contract Length: 6 Months

The Drafter Level 2 in this role is a technical specialist responsible for creating and revising complex 2D and 3D engineering models and drawings. This role supports the full project lifecycle—from initial design to procurement and construction—ensuring that all technical documentation meets the organizations rigorous safety and engineering standards. As a Level 2 professional, you will handle more intricate design layouts, perform technical calculations, and mentor junior CAD staff.
Responsibilities
- Design & Modeling: Create and revise 2D and 3D CAD models for various disciplines, including Civil/Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, Protection & Control (P&C), and Telecom.
- Technical Documentation: Produce essential project assets such as elevation profiles, isolation/operate drawings, crossing permits, right-of-way permits, and detailed maps.
- Standards Compliance: Assess drawings against BC Hydro CADD standards. Identify non-standard situations, flag conflicting data for engineers, and suggest corrections to maintain design integrity.
- Technical Calculations: Perform precise calculations to determine dimensions, slopes, elevations, material quantities, base loads, and acceptable clearances.
- Project Analysis: Analyze minimal design instructions to determine project requirements. Gather additional data independently to ensure drawing layouts are complete and accurate.
- Process Support: Create drawings for the procurement/tendering process and maintain organized records within the drawing management system for security and accessibility.
- Leadership & Development: Provide on-the-job orientation to Level 1 Drafters and participate in technical committees to develop new CADD standards and manuals.
- Qualifications
- 4 years of professional drafting experience, preferably within a utility or heavy industrial environment.
- Proven experience in both 2D and 3D computer-aided drafting (CAD) environments.
- Advanced CAD Proficiency: Expert-level skill in industry-standard CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit).
- Strong ability to perform geometry and trigonometry-based calculations for engineering layouts.
- Ability to conduct independent research on equipment specifications and historical drawings.
- Familiarity with engineering standards and the ability to interpret complex technical manuals.
- Attention to Detail: A high degree of accuracy is required to ensure safety and regulatory compliance in a utility setting.
- Ability to resolve drafting issues when provided with "minimal" instructions or conflicting data.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with Engineers, Designers, and junior team members.
- Education and Skills
- Diploma in Drafting: A post-secondary diploma in a recognized drafting or design program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Information
- 5 days per week and may move to a hybrid schedule as needed
- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
- Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
