Job Overview:
The Back End Software Engineer is responsible for developing the back end of a web application, handling logic, database interactions, user authentication, and configuration. This role evaluates emerging technologies to provide strategic, innovative, and cost-effective engineering solutions that increase the efficiency, reliability, and integration of Schlumberger services and operations. Working semi-autonomously as part of a team, this individual performs rapid prototyping of emerging technologies to solve industry-related problems. This is a cloud infrastructure-focused role supporting our AI Foundations team.
Responsibilities:
* Platform Architecture: Lead platform architecture and implementation on Azure using Terraform, Kubernetes operators, and Crossplane.
* Observability Stacks: Design and implement cloud-agnostic observability stacks, including Prometheus, Thanos, Loki, Tempo/Jaeger, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and Alertmanager.
* Platform Security: Manage platform security through event monitoring, detection with Falco, and adherence to CIS benchmarks.
* DevOps & GitOps: Oversee DevOps process creation and implementation with a strong focus on GitOps best practices.
* End-User Enablement: Facilitate end-user enablement through the delivery of internal workshops.
* Server-Side Development: Develop server-side logic, define and maintain the central database, and ensure high performance and responsiveness to requests from front-end developers.
* Systems Integration: Integrate user-facing elements developed by front-end developers with server-side applications.
* Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with front-end developers, customers, users, and Product Managers to establish objectives and design functional, cohesive code to enhance the user experience.
* Technical Research: Keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets.
* Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and comprehensive documentation to developers and stakeholders.
* Usability & Quality Standards: Apply usability procedures and principles as defined at the project or Product Line level and build prototypes, products, and systems that meet project quality standards.
* Component Re-use: Contribute to and support software re-use through the development of common components that are well-documented and tested.
Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or Applied Statistics.
* Experience: 7+ years of relevant experience in software engineering or related technical fields.
* Top Skill Requirement: Expert-level Kubernetes expertise.
* Cloud & Platform Experience: Proven experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure and Kubernetes-based platforms.
* Communication: Strong communication skills are required for this role.
