Pay Rate: $35.00/hour, depending on experience.
Work Type: Onsite – Freeport, TX 77541
Duration: 6-month contract with possibility of extension and/or conversion based on performance and other factors.
Additional Information: Standard Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) are required
Job Overview:
The Document Designer/Controller is responsible for preparing and modifying detailed, technical, scale drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting methods. This role ensures all designs comply with industry standards, specifications, codes, and regulations. Additionally, the Document Designer/Controller manages the storage and organization of both digital and physical plant equipment and design records to maintain a comprehensive and accurate site database.
Responsibilities:
* Conduct field walkdowns in various weather conditions to gather information for creating or confirming as-built piping drawings (approximately 10-15% of the time; may increase during heavy project periods).
* Generate Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), 3D models, plot plans, detail drawings, and Isometrics (ISOs).
* Effectively communicate and collaborate with engineers and construction crews to successfully complete projects.
* Maintain the Line Number and Instrument/Equipment Tag Number Master Databases.
* Work with engineers and contractors to assign and physically identify equipment numbers for new and existing assets.
* Manage the filing and maintenance of hard-copy drawings and revise drawings or markups as necessary.
* Apply knowledge and organization to Piping Line and Specialty Item Lists.
* Successfully complete small, fast-paced projects on time and within budget while prioritizing work to produce timely deliverables.
* Work effectively in a team environment, taking direction from department leads and demonstrating a working understanding of a chemical manufacturing site.
* Follow all company safety procedures and protocols and perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Associate degree in CAD or a related field (preferred).
* Minimum of five (5) years of piping design experience specifically within the chemical industry.
* Required proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D and/or Cadworx 3D (AutoCAD 2026 or earlier versions are acceptable).
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
* General knowledge of industry piping design standards.
* Ability to quickly familiarize with and apply specific plant standards.
* Deep proficiency with all applicable codes and regulations.
* Excellent communication skills for interacting with various departments (Technical, Fixed, Operations, Capital, etc.).
* High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
* An independently driven work ethic with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
