Raise is currently hiring a Mechanical – Generation – Stations Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.

Description 

The Mechanical – Generation – Stations Engineer in this role will provide engineering, estimating, and quality management for medium-to-high complexity mechanical projects within the organizations generation stations. You are responsible for ensuring that station mechanical systems—specifically large-scale gates, hoists, and wire rope systems—are designed, commissioned, and maintained safely, on budget, and in alignment with EGBC standards.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering & Design
  • System Design: Develop safe, innovative engineering solutions for station mechanical systems, including site layouts and facility construction.
  • CADD Oversight: Support the creation and revision of 2D and 3D models using Autodesk and other CADD applications, ensuring all work adheres to CADD standards.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Resolve "unusual" field engineering problems through independent study and judgment.
  • Commissioning & Field Operations
  • Gate & Hoist Systems: Lead the commissioning of large gates and hoist systems using industry best practices, with a specific focus on precision alignment.
  • Instrumentation: Troubleshoot and commission instrumentation for wire rope hoists.
  • Risk Mitigation: Exercise high-level judgment during testing to prevent inadvertent impacts on interconnected station equipment.
  • Project & Quality Management
  • Project Controls: Assist management in meeting safety, cost, and time objectives; recommend contractor payments and prepare progress reports.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Operate under the organizstions Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) and apply your/your firm's Permit to Practice (P2P) to all sealed deliverables.

Qualifications

  • 8 years in a relevant mechanical engineering field, with Experience in Heavy industry commissioning experience (Gates/Hoists preferred). Familiarity and experience with best industry practices for commissioning of large gates and 
  • Experience with commissioning and troubleshooting of instrumentation for wire rope hoists. 
  • Good judgement related to considering potential inadvertent impacts of testing on other equipment, and ability to adapt testing to avoid these risks.
  • Structured heavy industry commissioning experience would be an asset.
  • CADD Standards & Parametric Modeling Experience drafting for "Generation Station Mechanical Systems" and adherence to strict corporate CADD standards
  • Multi-Disciplinary Coordination (Mechanical/Electrical) Experience where your mechanical designs had to integrate with electrical infrastructure or control systems.
  • Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
  • Must maintain a valid OFA Level 1 certification for the duration of employment.

Additional Information 

  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
