Construction Supervisor

Project Overview:

On-site construction supervisor will be required to be on site during all field work, with the work happening year-round. When not on site, you may be required to help plan during slow construction periods for subsequent year construction. The scope of the work would be focused on the transmission line construction activities related to the Saint John Corridor Project. This project includes the construction of a new double circuit 138 kV Transmission Line, a 138 kV radial tap line within the greater Saint John area, the Coleson Cove Terminal Expansion and the Norton Phase Shifter.

Job Overview:

The Construction supervisor will be responsible for all transmission line construction related work including planning and execution of work at the construction site. This includes managing all site activities, conducting site meetings and regular reporting to the Project Manager. As a construction supervisor you will have additional construction resources working for you during peak times, including Field Operations Specialists and Permit Coordinators. A Construction Supervisor is typically assigned to small and medium size projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Primary workplace is office on site.
  • Responsible for planning site mobilization.
  • Responsible for planning construction execution.
  • Directs, manages and coordinates all activities on site.
  • Conducts regular site meetings.
  • Supervises contractors on site.
  • Coordinates with Materials Planner to arrange for materials to be provided to a contractor by NB Power.
  • Monitors, evaluates and reports progress against construction schedule.
  • Ensures quality of the work and deficiency identification and correction.
  • Works with site leads to identify required materials and equipment, coordinating with material planner and workgroup supervisors.
  • Ensures safety and security of site.
  • Regular progress reporting to Project Manager.
  • Identifies change requests. If no impact to scope, cost or schedule, deals with change. Otherwise change requests escalated to Project Manager.
  • Responsible for enforcing Field Change Authorization process with on-site contractors.
  • May be responsible for communicating with landowners and stakeholders where required.
  • Ensures that any environmental and quality control protection requirements on site are carried out.
  • Assists Project Manager with project closeout activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a Powerline Technician with 10+ years of experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in a leadership role within construction projects.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ field experience in an industrial environment.
  • Must have experience in construction and/or maintenance management for transmission line projects
  • Previous work experience at NB Power, resource management and transmission line maintenance would be considered an asset.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license is mandatory.

Additional Qualifications

  • Proficiency in document creation and editing (Microsoft Office Products such as Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Excel).
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills are necessary in order to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing requirements to a wide range of client groups (internal and external).
  • Skilled in coaching of co-workers and contractors, negotiation, mediation of disputes or differences of opinion and conflict resolution.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently or in a team environment and provide leadership, support, direction, and consultation to a wide range of people.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives with strong organizational skills to meet project deadlines.
  • Willing to travel, participate in activities, network and build relationships.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to organize, analyze and report on various parameters and data sets.
  • Ability to learn to use new tools and adapt existing tools to the task at hand.
  • Ability to communicate in both English and French would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to proactively detect challenges to safety, quality, cost and schedule that will ensure development and execution of effective prevention, mitigation, or corrective actions
