Description
Our Client is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Substation Electrical Engineer to join thir 20-person Transmission Engineering team. This role is critical to supporting an increasing workload across capital projects, emergency restorations, asset management strategic programs, and Owner’s Engineer reviews.
The successful candidate will focus on the design, specification, and installation of substation equipment for systems ranging from 12kV to 500kV. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability of the province’s bulk power system, from initial drawing reviews to final signing and sealing of technical requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design & Specification: Lead and review designs for electrical utility substations (12kV to 500kV), focusing on specialized power equipment.
- Technical Oversight: Provide technical direction to junior engineers and manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost.
- Asset Support: Support capital projects and emergency replacements/restorations for high-voltage transmission assets.
- Equipment Focus: Conduct technical evaluations and requirements sign-offs for:
- Switchgear: HV circuit breakers (up to 550kV), GIS, metal-clad switchgear, disconnect switches, and surge arresters.
- Reactive Equipment: Power transformers, STATCOMs, series capacitor stations, shunt reactors, and instrument transformers.
- Field Engagement: Perform infrequent site visits (approximately once per month) across the province to ensure design alignment and equipment integrity.
Qualifications
- 5 to 10 + years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent.
- Experience with "Owners Engineer" reviews, capital project lifecycles, or emergency restoration work.
- Experience with field testing, pulling equipment apart, commissioning, or industrial maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience in an electric utility environment or heavy industrial setting (Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, or Industrial Maintenance).
- Experience in either Switchgear or Reactive Equipment is required. We will align work assignments with your specific strengths and technical interests.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
- P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
Additional Information
- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
- Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
