Description
As an Intermediate Engineer within our clients Telecom Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining the next generation of the organizations critical telecommunications network. This position balances high-level design with hands-on Material Management and Construction Support. You will work on high-performance transport systems and connectivity solutions that are the backbone of utility operations, SCADA, grid protection, and cybersecurity across the province.
Responsibilities
- Engineering Design & Network Evolution
- Support the design of complex telecom networks and circuits, ensuring the reliability, performance, and security required for real-time grid operations.
- Develop designs for a diverse technology stack, including:
- Wireless: Microwave radio links, WiMAX, Satellite, LTE, and Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio.
- Wireline: Fiber optic networks (DWDM/OTN), SONET multiplexers, and Power Line Carrier (PLC) links.
- Networking: IP/MPLS networks, Digital cross-connect switches, and leased facilities.
- Infrastructure: -48 VDC power systems and grounding.
- Material Management & Construction Support
- Lead the Material Management lifecycle: from initial ordering and specification to ensuring all hardware is staged and ready for construction.
- Produce and review engineering drawings and technical documentation to guide field teams.
- Partner closely with Project Managers and construction crews to ensure safety, cost-efficiency, and milestone adherence.
- Resolve complex field issues and provide technical leadership during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Compliance & Site Engagement
- Ensure all engineering work complies with EGBC requirements, internal standards, and industry best practices.
- Participate in regular site visits to confirm design intent and support field implementation.
- Contribute to maintenance and emergency restoration activities when critical telecom systems are impacted.
Required
- 2 years of progressive experience in the design and engineering of telecommunications systems.
- Prior experience working within a Telecom department for a Power Utility is considered the "Gold Standard" for this role.
- Strong foundational knowledge of TCP/IP networking is required.
- Experience configuring and deploying Nokia IP/MPLS platforms or Cisco devices (including L2/L3VPN, OSPF, BGP, and QoS) is highly desirable.
- Technical Domain Expertise Ideally, you bring design experience in at least one of the following:
- Transport: TDM (SONET/PDH) and IP/MPLS circuits, including those carrying Teleprotection and RAS.
- Advanced Routing: IPv4/IPv6, IS-IS, EVPN, Segment Routing, and Traffic Engineering across large-scale LAN/WAN environments.
- Utility Specifics: Teleprotection, -48V DC power systems, and grounding for high-voltage environments.
- A solid understanding of project management processes, contract management, and construction oversight.
- Demonstrated excellence in technical writing and verbal communication.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing is required for frequent site visits and field support
- Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
Additional Information
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing is required for site visits and field support.
- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
- Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
