Raise is currently hiring a Stations Equipment Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Description

The Stations Equipment Engineer will Join our clients Transmission team, specifically focusing on Reactive Equipment and Switchgear. This role is critical to supporting our increasing workload across capital projects, emergency restorations, and asset management programs.

As a subject matter expert, you will provide specialized engineering solutions for electrical utility substations with operating voltages ranging from 12kV to 500kV. You will act as a technical lead, ensuring the reliability and modernization of BC’s electrical grid while serving as an Owner’s Engineer for critical design reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Design & Engineering: Lead the design and specification of substation electrical equipment within a utility environment, ensuring all solutions meet ’s safety and performance standards.
  • Project Management: Manage full-lifecycle design tasks, including defining scope, maintaining schedules, and controlling costs.
  • Specialized Technical Review: Perform "Owner’s Engineer" reviews for capital projects and OMA (Operations, Maintenance, and Administration) strategic work programs.
  • Emergency Response: Support emergency replacement and restoration work to maintain grid stability.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical direction, coaching, and oversight to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Facilitate consensus-building among diverse project teams to find value-added engineering solutions.

Qualifications

  • 8 years of experience in a relevant engineering field with experience in the following areas
    • Reactive Equipment
    • Series capacitor stations and STATCOMs.
    • Power transformers and shunt reactors.
    • Instrument transformers.
    • Switchgear Equipment
    • High-voltage (HV) circuit breakers up to 550kV.
    • HV & MV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and metal-clad switchgear.
    • Circuit switchers, disconnect switches, and fused cutouts.
    • Station service switchgear and station surge arresters.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design of electrical utility substations (12kV to 500kV).
  • Proven ability in project administration, including estimating and cost control.
  • Exceptional verbal and technical writing skills in English, with the ability to present complex analytical data to stakeholders.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Education and Certifications
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • PEng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired

Additional Information 

  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule of at least 2 days per week, or as required by project needs.
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
