RESPONSIBILITIES
The Anaplan Architect will act as the enterprise owner and design authority for the
Anaplan platform, ensuring that all solutions delivered by the Systems Integrator
align with organizational standards, long-term architecture, governance, and
business strategy. This role validates the SI’s work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Enterprise Architecture & Design Authority
Serve as the architectural authority for all Anaplan models and
connected-planning solutions delivered by the Systems Integrator.
Review, challenge, and approve solution designs, data models,
dimensionality, sparsity management, and calculation logic before build and
deployment.
Ensure adherence to Anaplan best practices (e.g., DISCO, modular design,
performance optimization, ALM standards).
SI Oversight and Quality Assurance
Act as the single technical counterpart to the Systems Integrator’s Solution
Architect.
Validate that delivered solutions meet approved functional requirements,
non-functional requirements, and enterprise standards.
Lead architecture reviews, design walkthroughs, and model inspections
prior to UAT and production release.
Platform Governance & Center of Excellence (CoE) Leadership
Establish and enforce Anaplan governance, standards, and guardrails as
part of the internal Anaplan Center of Excellence.
Define patterns for reusable components, data hubs, security models, and
integration approaches
Own the Anaplan roadmap, including expansion to new business domains
and adoption of new Anaplan features.
Integration & Enterprise Alignment
Ensure Anaplan integrates correctly with enterprise systems (e.g.,
S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, CRM, Data Warehouse) using approved
patterns and tools (Anaplan Connect, APIs).
Align Anaplan solutions with enterprise architecture, data governance, and
security policies.
Internal Enablement
Mentor internal model builders and administrators to progressively reduce
SI dependency.
Support internal capability building and long-term platform sustainability.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience
5+ years of hands-on Anaplan experience across design, architecture, and
governance roles.
Proven experience overseeing multiple end-to-end Anaplan
implementations delivered by external partners or SIs.
Strong background in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
Demonstrated experience in Application Lifecycle Management (ALM),
model optimization, and performance tuning.
Required Certifications
Anaplan Certified Model Builder (Level 2) – mandatory.
Anaplan Certified Solution Architect – mandatory for this role.
Preferred / Highly Desirable Certifications
Certified Master Anaplanner – strongly preferred for enterprise governance
roles.
Agile or Scrum certification (CSM, SAFe, or equivalent).
Technical Skills
Advanced multidimensional modeling and calculation design in Anaplan.
Deep understanding of:
o Security models and selective access
o Data hubs and spoke architectures
o Integration patterns (batch and API-based)
Strong Excel and financial modeling background.
Familiarity with enterprise data concepts (ETL, data warehousing, BI tools).
Soft Skills & Leadership Attributes
Ability to challenge vendors constructively and defend architectural
decisions.
Strong facilitation skills to bridge business, IT, and SI teams.
Clear written and verbal communication for design documentation and
executive-level discussions.
Strategic mindset focused on long-term scalability, not just project delivery.
Deliverables
The Anaplan Solution Architect is accountable for ensuring best practices are
being followed by the vendor in the following artifacts:
Architecture & Design Deliverables
Ensure best practices are being followed, and in alignment with the City of
Toronto systems and data strategy, in the Target-state architecture (data
hubs, spoke models, integrations) designed by the systems integrator.
Endorse design documents for all SI-delivered solutions
Governance & Standards
Ensures Modeling conventions, naming standards, performance guidelines
are followed as per Anaplan Design & Development Standards
Ensures Promotion paths, testing standards, and deployment controls are
set by the SI in the ALM & Release Management Framework
Collaborate and provide expert input in the Security & Access Model
Definition ensuring Role-based access, selective access, and compliance
alignment with standards.
Strategic Roadmap
Planned enhancements, new use cases, and platform optimization
initiatives
Reduction strategy for SI dependency over time
