Senior Civil/Structural Engineer

Overview
* We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to oversee engineering and design aspects of oil & gas, and utility-scale solar and wind projects in the USA and Canada.
* The successful candidate will provide project engineering leadership and subject matter expertise for civil/structural engineering activities while coordinating reviews of multidiscipline team (electrical, SCADA, etc.) and oversee EPC contractor’s engineering packages (IFR and IFC) in alignment Company’s standards, procedures, and guiding principle.
* This position ensures all design is in compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and interconnection regulations.
Responsibility
* Provide technical support in development of the project scope, schedule, capital cost estimate, execution planning, risks and supporting specification and standard information related to assigned facility projects during all project phases, project development, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and close out.
* Lead the technical review of EPC contractor's engineering and design packages (IFR and IFC) for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the client’s standards and applicable codes (AASHTO, IBC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, NEC, NESC).
* Provide technical feedback and coordinate design refinements with EPCs and stakeholders.
* Review and assess topographic surveys, geotechnical investigations, hydrology studies, and civil/structural designs, including site grading, drainage, access roads, foundations (shallow and deep), buildings, steel support structures, and platforms.
* Identify design risks and constructability issues and recommend technically sound and cost-effective engineering solutions.
* Collaborate with EPC in responding to technical questions and provide clarifications in a timely manner.
* Act as the project engineering lead, coordinating multidisciplinary design reviews (including electrical, SCADA, and protection systems) to ensure alignment in scope, performance, and design intent.
* Accountable to ensure EPC design is in compliance with project procedures, design standards (including providing recommendations for improvements), regulatory, environmental, health and safety requirements.
* Monitor engineering costs and timelines to ensure budget and schedule are maintained
* Participate in design review meetings to ensure consistency in the scope, design, and expected performance. Follows applicable design review procedures
* Lead the specification and requisition of materials by reviewing vendor materials quotations, performing technical bid evaluations and providing recommendations based on technical merit. Collaborate with Supply Chain to procure material via internal tools.
* Support permitting and regulatory approval (e.g., ERCOT, FERC, NERC), by coordinating with EPC teams on engineering inputs and technical documentation required for permit applications and agency/third-party reviews (e.g., civil/site permits, environmental conditions of approval).
* Ensure EPC deliverables align with permit requirements and commitments.
* Work closely with regulatory teams to ensure all electrical interconnection implementations meet local, state, and federal regulations. Participate in coordination with Utility providers.
* Accountable for the preparation of detailed engineering construction drawings within assigned area ensuring efficient and functional designs.
* Ensure adequate information is provided to enable cost effective construction of facilities.
* Provide technical guidance during construction, addressing engineering-related RFIs and field modifications.
* Ensure engineering support for the commissioning and testing of HV substations and PV plant electrical systems, and protection systems.
* Recommend improvements to internal specifications and processes
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil/structural engineering.
* 10+ years of experience in civil/structural design and construction support, including at least 10 years in oil & gas and a minimum of 3 years in renewable energy projects (solar, wind).
* Professional Engineer designation with APEGA or equivalent, or eligibility to register.
* Thorough understanding of the design process including the application of civil design software packages.
* In-depth knowledge of surveying, Geotech, grading, hydrology, road design, building, steel support structure, and shallow or deep foundations.
* Strong understanding of grid interconnection processes and utility-scale renewable energy integration.
* Previous experience leading, mentoring and motivating multi-discipline engineering team.
* Effective and professional interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
* Dedicated team player with strong facilitation, collaboration, and negotiation skills to influence and drive-forward results and decisions without formal authority.
* Role requires a valid driver’s license, which will be verified with a motor vehicle check prior to hire.
* Must be able to travel to the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with surveying and hydrology modeling software tools (e.g., Arc-GIS, HEC-RAS)
* Project Engineer/Project Management experience with medium to large scale projects. PMP is a bonus.
* Field construction experience.
