Our client is seeking a Journeyman Production Machinist and Offline Programmer to join their growing shop team. This company offers manufacturing solutions for their loyal client base. If you are looking for an opportunity to move out West, this position could be right for you.

You will be responsible for efficiently creating quality parts produced on CNC machines. This includes enc lathes, enc milling machines (3, 4, and 5 axis) and other enc machining related equipment.

Responsibilities will include offline programming utilizing various industry software: Mastercam, Gibbscam, Fusion, etc.. Setting up each type of enc machine for an operator, dry running first off parts, loading & removing parts, operating controls, setting offsets, program edits, deburring and inspection of quality parts for conformance to requirements. You will need knowledge to detect equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjust machine/tooling/program as needed. You will also be required to ensure quality of product and report all critical/time loss machine malfunctions to their immediate supervisor as needed. This position will require use of lifting & handling equipment such as forklifts, slings, jib cranes, and other lifting devices as an essential element of their duties.

Job Duties:

•      Under supervision of the Plant Manager, responsible for quality parts produced on CNC (computer numeric controlled) machining equipment such as but not limited to lathes and milling machines.

•      Able to supervise a team of 6 to 10 junior machinists and operators

•      Responsible for programming parts, loading parts, proving first-off parts, operating controls, setting offsets, program edits, deburring and inspection of quality parts for conformance to requirements.

•      Studies and interprets drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.

•       Measures and marks dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as a guide for subsequent machining.

•       Detects equipment malfunctions, out of tolerance machining, and adjusts machine, within capabilities, controls or control media as required to ensure quality of production.

•       Operates a forklift and lifting devices for movement of parts.

•       Communicates with Plant Manager, engineers, production control, quality and other shop personnel to resolve any machining or quality issues.

•      Compute dimensions and tolerances (both imperial & metric) and measure and lay out work pieces

•      Set up, operate and maintain a variety of enc machine tools to perform precision, repetitive and non-repetitive machining operations such as parting, turning, milling, boring, drilling, precision grinding, and other operations.

•      Fit and assemble machined metal parts and sub-assemblies using hand and power tools

•       Verify dimensions of machined parts or tooling using micrometers, verniers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, co-ordinate measuring machines (CMM) or other specialized measuring instruments as available.

•       Maintain, repair and calibrate precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, height gauges and other measuring devices

•       Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor

•       Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports as required.

Requirements:

•       Journeyman / Red Seal CNC Machinist certification.

•       Ability to read and interpret technical drawings & various computer file types

•       Programming experience using MasterCam, GibbsCam, or Fusion.

•       Minimum of 5 years experience in operating/programming CNC machines

such as lathes and milling machines in production & manufacturing environment.

•       Ability to edit existing programs, create and test new ones efficiently.

•       Set up and run programs in a manufacturing environment

•       Expert knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, micrometers, depth gages, indicators and scales.

•       Expert knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with a high level understanding of geometric tolerancing and dimensions.

•       Expert knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines.

•       Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events.

•       Must possess high level math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, trigonometry, geometry and algebra for the purpose calculating material machining

•       Ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment.

•       Able to fabricate new parts to replace defective parts during machine setup, maintenance, or overhaul.

•       Thorough knowledge of load bearing capabilities of the equipment.

•       Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications.

•       Familiarity with ISO quality standards.

•       Experience in supervising and mentoring apprentices.

Work Conditions:

•       Ability to lift and carry objects up to (70) lbs.

•       Manual dexterity required; to use power and hand tools related to machining functions.

•       Frequently noisy working environment.

•       Overtime as required.

•       Use of PPE, including safety glasses, ear plugs, and steel toe footware required.
