Job Overview
The Clerical Assistant supports the client’s financial operations by ensuring accurate processing, reconciliation, and documentation of payment-related transactions. This role plays a key part in maintaining data integrity, resolving discrepancies, and supporting internal and external stakeholders with payment and refund inquiries.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete posting and balancing activities for payments received in a timely and accurate manner
- Process returned payment transactions and update customer accounts accordingly
- Investigate, identify, and correct misapplied payments
- Resolve payment exceptions to ensure successful application of cheque and other payment types
- Manage and complete customer and stakeholder cases related to payments and refunds
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to support audit requirements
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve payment-related concerns
- Perform other duties as required to support financial operations
Qualifications
- Minimum high school diploma; post-secondary education in a financial field is an asset
- 0–3 years of experience in a financial, bookkeeping, or accounting environment
- Basic understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and audit readiness
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage varying workloads
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a financial field is preferred
- Combination of relevant education and experience is considered an asset
- Open to recent graduates in financial programs who demonstrate strong foundational knowledge and core competencies
