Puppet to Ansible Migration Specialist

Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Puppet SME on a migration team, providing deep expertise in Puppet manifests, modules, classes, and resource declarations
- Read, interpret, and debug complex Puppet code across a large library of existing manifests and playbooks
- Collaborate closely with an Ansible SME to ensure all Puppet-based logic, functions, and configurations are accurately and completely represented in the new Ansible playbooks
- Conduct systematic validation and QA reviews of migrated Ansible playbooks to confirm functional equivalency with the original Puppet implementations
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or missing logic during the migration process and provide clear, actionable remediation guidance
- Document findings, translation decisions, and validation results to support project traceability and audit readiness
- Participate in technical working sessions, stand-ups, and sprint reviews as part of an agile delivery team
- Support knowledge transfer and cross-training between Puppet and Ansible practices where applicable
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Puppet, including deep expertise in writing, reading, and debugging Puppet manifests
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and deconstruct Puppet code, including manifests, modules, Hiera configurations, Facter, and custom resource types
- Working knowledge of Red Hat Ansible / Ansible Automation Platform, including playbooks, roles, tasks, variables, and handlers
- Strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) principles and configuration management best practices
- Experience working within large-scale enterprise IT environments, ideally in managed services or outsourced infrastructure contexts
- Ability to identify functional equivalents between Puppet and Ansible constructs
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a Puppet-to-Ansible migration or similar configuration management modernization project
- Familiarity with RHEL/CentOS/Linux system administration and automation
- Experience with Git/version control and CI/CD pipeline tooling
- Knowledge of YAML, Ruby, or Python scripting in an automation context
- Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation or equivalent certification a plus
- Experience in a managed services, outsourcing, or enterprise IT services environment
