Specialist P&C Commissioning Engineer
- Pay Rate: $108.18/hour, depending on experience
- Contract Length: 1 year, with potential for extension
- Location: Burnaby, British Columbia
Raise is currently hiring two (2) Specialist P&C Commissioning Engineers on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.
Description
As a Specialist P&C Commissioning Engineer, you will provide high-level technical expertise and commissioning acceptance services for Protection and Control (P&C) systems across the BC Hydro transmission network. This role is critical in ensuring the reliability and safety of assets ranging from 12kV to 500kV. You will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), bridging the gap between design, field operations, and grid reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Commissioning & Acceptance: Provide commissioning acceptance services for P&C equipment in Transmission and Distribution substations. Review, accept, and seal commissioning documentation.
- Technical Support: Offer advanced technical support to CPC field technologists and project teams on complex P&C installations and modifications.
- Disturbance Analysis: Investigate and analyze major system disturbances and abnormal conditions; recommend corrective actions based on fault analysis.
- Standards & Procedures: Author and review P&C commissioning standards and maintenance modifications. Develop contingency and short-term operating plans for abnormal system states.
- Real-Time Operations: Support the integrated grid by interpreting technical studies, formulating operating strategies, and documenting procedures for real-time operations.
- Collaboration: Participate in multi-disciplinary committees and interact with stakeholders in Integrated Planning, Grid Operations, Asset Management, and Generation.
Qualifications
- 10 years of engineering experience in a relevant field, and a minimum of 4 years of direct P&C Commissioning experience.
- Strong background in transmission system protection, power system parameters, and system integration testing.
- Knowledge of P&C testing and commissioning best practices, experience working in a field environment, and experience in fault analysis and investigations is required.
- Practical experience in a field environment and proficiency in fault analysis.
- Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, and strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills to manage diverse business unit interactions.
- Ability to work in a field environment and support field technologists on-site.
- Capability to manage high-complexity projects as a technical lead.
- Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (focus on Power Systems or Power Engineering is highly preferred)
- P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
Additional Information
- Willingness to travel frequently to various construction and substation sites
- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
- Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
