Machinist
Pay Rate: $32.00 – $34.00/hour on W2, depending on experience
Work Type: Onsite – Katy, TX 77494
Work Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday – Friday | 6:00 am – 2:00 pm | Overtime
Duration: 6-month contract with possibility of extension and/or conversion based on performance and other factors.
Additional Details: Standard Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) are required.
Raise is currently hiring a Machinist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for machining new tools and rework and maintaining of existing, tools (molds, dies, fixtures, etc) for production of molded rubber products.
- Responsible for keeping up with assigned safety training, reporting any unsafe conditions, as well as performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Perform machining of new and rework of existing molds, dies and fixtures, and required maintenance parts, including occasional welding and torch use.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirement.
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Ability to write/ create programs for CNC Mills and lathes using Edgecam or other CAD programming Software from scratch and without assistance.
- Ability to operate/ program CNC Mills and lathes, as well as operate manual mills, lathes and surface grinders. Produce quality work and inspect work before passing to production.
- Develops specifications from general description and assists in providing sketches/drawings when necessary to communicate changes with design personnel, confer with production personnel, other programmers, or others to resolve machining, assembly or production problems.
- Safely transport molds and raw materials to and from the manufacturing plant and storage locations.
- Adhere to all State, Federal and Company work rules. Works injury free, achieves an injury free working environment and maintains the highest Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
- Trains other employees and imparts personal knowledge of parts, procedures, machines etc., and participate in improvement activities when requested by supervision or management to ensure a highly competent workforce.
- Maintains tools, tool inventory, and machine shop machines, to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience machining tools, molds, dies and fixtures for the rubber manufacturing process or equivalent experience.
- CNC/machine-specific certifications, but not mandatory.
- Ability to write/ create programs for CNC Mills and lathes using Edgecam or other CAD programming software from scratch and without assistance is the #1 priority.
- Proficient in using hand measuring tools (e.g. micrometers, calipers, indicators, depth gauges).
- Must be proficient writing and/ or creating programs for CNC mills and lathes using Edgecam or other CAD programming software.
- Proficient with operating CNC mills and CNC lathes is necessary.
- Maintain Forklift and Crane certifications.
- Must be able to pass Machinist test with 85% accuracy (if administered).
- Ability to take and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to follow directions working from verbal instructions, working independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to comply with the facility’s production, quality and safety standards.
- Must possess a high degree of initiative, with the ability to be promptly and regularly at work.
- Ability to work fluctuating work schedules and extensive work hours required by work loads.
- Capable of performing a variety of manual assignments/tasks as defined by the critical demands of the job.
Physical demands:
- Must be able to traverse ladders, stairs, gangways and scaffolding at varying heights
- Must have excellent balance to traverse and negotiate uneven surfaces at varying heights
- Must be able to operate motor vehicles with valid driver’s license
- Must be able to handle and operate hand tools weighing up to 25 pounds and a pinch or trigger grip of 15 pounds
- Depth perception
- Color vision/perception
- Hearing of sounds and speech within normal frequency/range
- Climb up and down 6" ladder
- Must be able to handle materials with hands (bolts, nuts and hand tools)
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds from floor to 60"
- Must be able to perform single-handed carry up to 35 pounds
- Must be able to perform two-handed carry up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to generate 50 pounds of force in order to perform a dynamic push or pull
Work Environment:
- Unionized Facility: Yes.
- Dress Code: Coveralls provided initially. Steel-toe shoes required. Short sleeves. Pants; no shorts.
