Design Technologist
- Location: Toronto, ON – Hybrid – (4 days on site, WFH day is flexible)
- Pay Rate: $60.39/hr – $71.31/hr
- Contract Length: 12 Months with a possibility of extension

Responsibilities:
- Work on core design system architecture, design token frameworks, and user interface guidelines for commercial web platforms.
- Discover user interface patterns and create reusable, flexible, and accessible components.
- Provide guidance to team members with advice and techniques that improve their understanding and mastery of design systems.
- Determine strategies for enabling the collection, refinement, governance, and distribution of shared patterns and components.
- Contribute to the creation of reusable components, utilities, and libraries within Figma and contribute to coded components and component QA.
Must have skills
- A/BS degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), Systems Design / Human Factors Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of experience in designing and developing usable interfaces across multiple platforms.
- Must be able to articulate design strategy, rationale and logic; describing benefits and highlighting risks associated with design decisions with strong collaboration skills
- Advanced Figma expertise (including building design systems and using Figma plugins)
- Basic understanding of development concepts (“vibe coding”)
- Strong understanding of mobile-first design principles
- Familiarity with CSS and JavaScript
- Open communicator and collaborative mindset
Nice to have skills:
- MA/MS degree or certification in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), Systems Design / Human Factors Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience or a related field.
- Experience with Storybook
- Exposure to VS Code or GitHub Copilot
- Familiarity with GitHub
- Experience with Claude Code or Windsurf
- Experience using Mural
- Experience working within a large organization and within an agile environment.
- Has experience designing user interfaces for mobile native platforms (Android and iOS).
- familiarity with common user interface tools and frameworks (Sass, Tailwind, React, and Angular).
- Knowledge of software services / APIs
