Raise is currently hiring a Commercial Analyst on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, the third largest producer of Canadian oil and natural gas and the second largest refiner and upgrader with extensive midstream and downstream infrastructure.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description 

The Commercial Analyst will join our clients Retail Business Unit. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity of financial data across our Canadian Retail and Cardlock networks. You will be responsible for the end-to-end reconciliation of multi-party settlement files, managing high-volume transactional data, and maintaining the accuracy of balance sheet accounts. This position offers an opportunity to work within a complex systems environment—including SAP and Allegro—to support the financial health of our clients retail assets.

Responsibilities

  • Settlement & Reconciliation: Reconcile daily settlement files from third-party providers for credit, debit, and loyalty card transactions originating from Retail and Cardlock sites.
  • Payment Verification: Ensure cash receipts align with expected settlements and facilitate accurate, timely payments to site operators.
  • Transactional Accounting: Reconcile AP invoices at a granular transactional level and manage the submission process for payment.
  • Receivables Management: Monitor third-party receivable balances to ensure validity and actively lead collection efforts on outstanding amounts.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations for SAP credit card clearing, loyalty points, and gift card accounts; record necessary journal entries in SMS and SAP.
  • Issue Resolution: Act as a subject matter expert to investigate discrepancies, answer queries, and follow up on outstanding issues with third-party vendors and partners.
  • Business Support: Contribute to ad-hoc projects and process improvements using tools like Blackline and Allegro to enhance the efficiency of the retail network.

Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of progressive experience in financial analysis or accounting, preferably within a high-volume retail or energy transaction environment.
  • Proficiency in SAP and Excel is essential; hands-on experience with SMS, Allegro, LOM, or Blackline is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing month-end close activities, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, within strict deadlines.
  • Proven ability to reconcile complex, multi-system data sets and perform root-cause analysis on transactional discrepancies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with third-party providers and internal business units to resolve outstanding financial issues.
  • Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is required; a
  •  CPA designation or an advanced financial degree is considered a strong asset.
