Intermediate Accountant
- Pay Rate: $47.97 – $55.79/hour, depending on experience
- Contract Length: 3.5 months (end date is August 31, 2026)
- Location: Hybrid
Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.
Responsibilities
Perform detailed accounting and reporting activities monthly to support an accurate and timely period-end close, including:
- Posting monthly accruals, reclassifications, and other journal entries.
- Developing, completing, and refining balance sheet reconciliations and investigating any anomalies to expectations.
- Preparing variance analysis on monthly and quarterly data.
- Actively partner with various teams across the organization to assist with ad-hoc reporting, analysis, projects, and decision support as required.
Qualifications
- Completion of a professional accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA, CPA), or have passed the CFE and working on work experience requirements for designation. We are okay with foreign designations.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an accounting role with progressive levels of responsibility.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Advanced excel proficiency and an interest in learning new technology. (i.e. Pivots, lookups, aid in workbook improvements)
- Attention to detail, organized and thorough, with a desire for continuous improvement. Don’t just copy what has been done in the past.
- Effective communication skills to build collaborative relationships with business partners and to provide guidance &/or instruction to peers in the organization.
- Previous experience with JD Edwards or other ERP software and reporting systems (i.e., Hyperion) would be considered an asset.
Must Haves
- Proven experience executing full month-end close processes in a mid-to-large organization
- Strong proficiency in journal entry preparation and review (accruals, prepaids, reclasses)
- Experience with balance sheet reconciliations and resolving reconciling items
- Ability to perform variance analysis (actuals vs. budget/forecast/prior periods)
- Intermediate Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups))
- Strong understanding of IFRS
Nice to Haves
- Previous experience with JD Edwards or other ERP software and reporting systems (i.e., Hyperion)
- Experience in airline, transportation, or complex operational environments
- Experience in improving or standardizing accounting processes and templates
Soft Skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to manage tight deadlines and prioritize during peak periods (month-end)
- Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
- Problem-solving mindset with ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Additional Information
- Role is heavily concentrated around month-end, with peak workload during close cycles
- Requires ability to work with multiple stakeholders
- May require overtime (~10 hours) during first week of the month
- Hybrid expectations (in office Mon-Wed, work from home Thu-Fri)
