Job Overview

The Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the client’s accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and regulatory reporting functions. This role plays a key part in the execution of month-end and year-end financial activities, financial analysis, audit support, and long-term planning initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial reporting related to capital management, long-term debt, dividends, salaries, and pensions
  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute monthly and annual financial statements with detailed commentary and insights
  • Review and analyze end-of-month entries and identify significant variances within financial statements and operational assumptions
  • Analyze and report on key financial drivers, including volumes, distribution rates, customer additions, operating expenses, capital expenditures, and income tax
  • Provide financial data, reports, and ad hoc analysis to support business decisions and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors during interim and year-end audit processes
  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory filings, responses, and supporting documentation
  • Develop and document accounting policy recommendations in accordance with US GAAP standards
  • Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning activities
  • Review financial reporting processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness
  • Maintain and enhance financial models and analytical tools to support evolving business requirements
  • Contribute across multiple Finance Team functions and develop versatility within departmental operations

Qualifications

  • Professional accounting designation required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant accounting or financial analysis experience
  • Bilingual proficiency in both French and English required
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to understand and apply complex financial and accounting concepts
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Oracle and Hyperion considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Federal and Quebec tax compliance requirements considered an asset
  • Understanding of project profitability analysis and investment evaluation methodologies considered an asset
