They are seeking an experienced and highly technical Calandria Engineer with deep expertise in CANDU reactor technology to join their team.
Summary
Under minimal supervision, the Calandria Engineer supports complex nuclear engineering and manufacturing projects involving CANDU reactor technology. This role requires extensive experience interpreting engineering drawings, coordinating with manufacturing and vendor teams, and supporting the execution of highly regulated nuclear projects.
The successful candidate will serve as a key technical liaison between internal stakeholders and external vendors while supporting manufacturing reviews, technical evaluations, project risk management, and issue resolution activities. This role combines strong engineering knowledge with project coordination and manufacturing process expertise to ensure successful project delivery.
Candidates with CANDU 6 experience and/or prior AECL or CANDU Energy mechanical engineering experience are strongly preferred.
Major Duties
· Interpret, review, and analyze detailed engineering drawings and outline GA drawings.
· Collaborate with cost estimators and manufacturing engineers to review and understand Bills of Materials (BoMs), manufacturing sequences, and production processes.
· Act as the primary point of contact between vendors and internal project teams for technical and commercial matters.
· Support manufacturing and engineering teams throughout project execution activities.
· Manage project risks and assist in resolving complex technical and commercial issues.
· Interpret technical requirements, project documentation, and contractual obligations to ensure compliance and successful execution.
· Deliver regular, transparent reporting to internal and external stakeholders regarding project status, technical concerns, and risk mitigation activities.
· Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure engineering deliverables are completed on schedule and within quality expectations.
· Ensure compliance with applicable nuclear industry standards, quality requirements, and manufacturing procedures.
Education & Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
· Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience.
· At least 5 years of experience working within a manufacturing-based organization.
· Strong familiarity with CANDU reactor technology is required.
· CANDU 6 reactor experience is highly preferred.
· Previous AECL or CANDU Energy experience is considered a strong asset.
· Experience within nuclear energy, power generation, or oil & gas industries is considered an asset.
Skills & Knowledge
· Strong ability to interpret and review complex engineering drawings and technical documentation.
· Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, production sequencing, and Bills of Materials (BoMs).
· Strong understanding of vendor coordination and stakeholder management within technical project environments.
· Experience or knowledge related to pressure vessels and heat exchangers is considered an asset.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
· Strong problem-solving and risk management capabilities.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and highly regulated environment.
· Strong reporting, coordination, and organizational skills.
· Knowledge of nuclear quality standards and manufacturing compliance practices is considered an asset.
