Raise is currently hiring a Geo Technical Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description

The Geotechnical Engineer in this role will provides specialized engineering services to support the design, construction, and maintenance of our clients vast portfolio of dams, substations, and transmission lines. This role involves assessing soil and rock stability, managing geohazard risks, and ensuring the long-term integrity of hydroelectric assets.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of engineering design documentation, including design basis reports, scopes of work, construction work packages, and material take-offs.
  • Develop, review, and coordinate civil engineering design drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams to ensure alignment with project requirements, constructability, and schedule objectives.
  • Support route selection studies and identify potential conflicts during daylighting and early project investigation phases.
  • Perform constructability assessments and participate in inspections throughout various stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), Substitution/Equivalency Request (SRQ’s), issuing field instructions, and conducting field reviews on behalf of the Engineer of Record.
  • Conduct regular construction site inspections to verify compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, codes, and applicable standards.
  • Perform design reviews, construction inspections, and contract administration duties as required.
  • Carry out reviews of contractor’s deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, including site inspection reports, field review reports, deficiency lists, and inspection logs.
  • Document construction progress, non-conformances, and corrective actions, and communicate findings to the project team.
  • Assist with commissioning activities and the preparation of project close-out documentation, including as-built drawings, design conformance certificate and Construction Completion reports.
  • Liaise with construction management, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to support safe, compliant, and successful project delivery.
  • Promote and enforce health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements on site, ensuring work is performed in compliance with safety regulations,  policies, and project specific safety plans.             

Qualifications

  • 8 years of experience in a relevant engineering field with a background and experience in the underground utility construction and design.
  • Proven experience in performing stability and seepage analyses for large embankment dams. This includes using numerical modeling software (e.g., GeoStudio, FLAC, or PLAXIS).
  • Expertise in planning and supervising field investigations, including sonic and diamond drilling, cone penetration testing (CPT), and the installation of piezometers and slope inclinometers.
  • Ability to evaluate the performance of earth structures under seismic loading, specifically focusing on liquefaction potential and post-earthquake settlement.
  • Demonstrated success in producing "signed and sealed" geotechnical design reports, foundation recommendations, and tender documents that meet Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) standards.
  • Experience acting as the "Professional of Record" or field delegate during construction phases to ensure earthworks and excavations adhere to design specifications and safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of the BC Dam Safety Regulation and experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (Structural, Hydrotechnical, and Environmental) to mitigate project risks.
  • Valid Driver’s License  
  • Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in Geological Engineering or Civil Engineering (with a heavy Geotechnical focus) from an accredited university.
  • P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
  • First Aid training.
  • Optional Transportation Endorsement.

Additional Information

  • Assignment include working night shifts . No Fly-in/Fly-Out. Candidate shall relocate to Victoria. No Accommodation will be provided:

  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
