  • Pay Rate: $92.00/hour, depending on experience

  • Location: Burnaby, British Columbia 

Raise is currently hiring a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer – Civil/Structural on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description 

The Senior QA Engineer, in this role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing robust Quality Management processes across civil and structural project scopes:

Responsibilities

  • Identify quality risks, propose mitigation plans, and monitor implementation.
  • Work closely with engineering teams, supply chain, contract management, construction management, and suppliers to ensure compliance with specifications and QA requirements.
  • Provide direction for in-house and contracted field inspectors.
  • Participate in strategic sourcing, define evaluation criteria, assess proposals, and perform supplier evaluations and surveillance.
  • Manage supplier improvement plans and monitor progress.
  • Review inspection and test plans and contractor submittals.
  • Witness testing (including factory acceptance tests) and verify compliance with standards.
  • Lead factory or site construction audits
  • Initiate and lead resolution of non-conformities.
  • Prepare clear, concise reports, memos, and project quality plans.
  • Initiate new work releases with quality service providers.
  • Balance technical knowledge, business sense, and communication skills to deliver efficient solutions.
  • Be self-motivated and thrive in managing multiple concurrent projects (up to 10 at various stages).

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience a with a strong foundational background in Civil/Structural engineering and quality assurance practices: (minimum 2 years in QA).
  • Nice to have:
    • Hydroelectric or electric utility experience (transmission, substations, generation).
    • Knowledge of QA tools and methods.
    • Public procurement processes.
    • Auditing experience (manufacturing, construction site, or plant evaluations).
    • Civil/structural design concepts and interpretation of drawings/specifications.
    • Concrete mix design, testing, and repair methodologies.
    • Civil inspections, soil sampling/testing, compaction analysis.
    • Concrete foundations: rebar, formwork, placement, inspection/testing.
    • Caissons, helical pile foundations, screw piles: installation inspection/testing.
    • Pre-cast materials design and testing.
    • Structural steel, welding practices, and inspections.
    • Quality processes related to construction management.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Education and Skills
    • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering 
    • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with EGBC and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and multi-tasking skills required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, databases, and web tools.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.

Additional Information 

  • Candidates in this role will be working a Hybrid work model: minimum 2 days/week in office.
  • Must be able to travel independently to remote areas of BC (including winter conditions) and to supplier locations in and outside Canada.
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
