Mechanical Engineer – Generation Stations
- Pay rate: $110.00/hour (based on experience)

- Location: Burnaby, BC; hybrid in office 2 – 3 days a week
Raise is currently hiring an Mechanical Engineer – Generation Stations team member on behalf of our client, one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.
Description
The Mechanical Engineer – Generation Stations will support mechanical systems engineering, drafting, and design activities for medium-complexity projects and operations.
This role provides engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management support for medium-complexity projects. The Engineer/Geoscientist applies professional judgment to develop safe engineering solutions, resolve technical challenges, and support project delivery within cost, quality, and schedule targets. This position also supports increased mechanical workload across capital projects, OMA programs, and Owners Engineer review activities.
Responsibilities
- Develop safe engineering solutions, including designs, analyses, and problem resolution for medium-complexity projects.
- Support project and operations management by proposing plan changes, estimating costs, recommending contractor payments, preparing progress reports, and coordinating work schedules.
- Conduct independent studies and analyses to resolve highly technical or unusual engineering and field issues.
- Contribute to engineering practice by supporting technical standards development, exercising engineering judgment, and providing guidance to other professionals.
- Create, revise, and manage engineering drawings for mechanical systems using Autodesk and other CADD applications.
- Mechanical systems include hydraulic turbines (Pelton, Francis, Kaplan), generator systems, governor systems, gates (intake, draft tube, maintenance), penstock inlet valves, and turbine inlet valves.
- Use 2D/3D drafting, modelling, and parametric design tools to support site preparation, facility construction, and electrical/mechanical infrastructure layout.
- Produce customized drawings for non-standard engineering and design work in accordance with CADD standards.
- Perform basic engineering calculations as required.
Must Have Qualifications:
- 8 years of experience in a relevant engineering field.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with EGBC, or eligible for registration.
- Project work experience involving multiple stakeholders.
- Expertise in turbines, generators, and/or governor systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with utility or similar-industry CADD drafting.
- Completion or progress toward the Electrical System introductory course.
Education and Skills:
- Registered P.Eng. or P.Geo. (EGBC or eligible).
- Familiarity with CAD systems, Autodesk applications, and drawing standards.
- Ability to use industry design/analysis software.
- Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Intermediate written and spoken English.
- Ability to work with digital sign-and-seal technology (Notarius subscription may be required).
Additional Information
- Candidate must hold a sole practitioner Permit to Practice (or use their firm’s) with EGBC prior to assignment start.
- Work is conducted under companies Professional Practice Management Plan, Quality Management Pillar.
- All sealed work must reference the candidate’s Permit to Practice Number.
- Company retains project documentation to meet EGBC Bylaw requirements.
- Class 5 driver’s license in good standing.
- Ability to travel within BC (approx. 2–3 times per year).
