Our client is a global leader in in-vitro diagnostics. They strongly serve hospitals and labs in over 100 countries manufacturing a comprehensive range of diagnostic products and solutions. We are looking for an Embedded Engineering Manager to join their team in Utah right away. Summary:

The Embedded Engineering Manager directs and guides the activities of research and technical implementation functions responsible for designing, developing, modifying and evaluating electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electronic equipment, embedded firmware for hardware control, and software application programs for products. You will evaluate final results of research and development projects to assure accomplishment of technical objectives. You will prepare and present reports outlining the outcome of technical projects and make recommendations for actions necessary to achieve desired results. Supervises electrical hardware and software design personnel.

What you will be doing…

• Analyzes design proposals, product requirements, and specifications to determine feasibility of hardware and firmware/application designs in conjunction with development time, budget, and unit cost.

• Researches, analyzes, and recommends the most current product system architecture that maps to product requirements, including platforms for electronic hardware and firmware/software applications.

• Specifies and maintains development platforms for both hardware and software systems.

• Oversees planning, development, and documentation activities associated with electrical and electro-mechanical components and subsystems, embedded firmware, and software applications. Will typically perform specific tactical design and documentation activities.

• Guides and contributes to the design and execution of test protocols and experiments to verify and validate designs. Ensures results are documented appropriately in reports.

• Manages interfaces between design resources for electrical hardware, software, and other engineering staff to evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, and related operational and performance requirements of overall system; resolving engineering design and test problems as needed.

• Ensures that firmware/software development activities follow software life cycle processes that meet applicable regulatory requirements, coding standards, source archival and control processes, and that are well-documented for future reference and maintenance.

• Documents development activities consistent with formal quality systems; including definition of input requirements, project planning, design output (source code, software design specifications, etc.), design review, design verification and validation, control of design changes, and risk management.

• Coordinates and manages activities with internal and external project stakeholders throughout the design and development process, including transition to production.

• Communicates project status, major issues and mitigations, etc. to other project stakeholders and management.

• Establishes expectations and goals for direct employees related to both company objectives and employee development, motivating them to achieve the goals and objectives.

• Analyzes and resolves employee-related issues and problems that may arise in the department and assists employees to solve problems and implement solutions.

• Assists with related special projects, as required.

Education:

•Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field from four-year college or university and at least seven (7) years’ experience. A minimum of two (2) years' experience in technical oversight or management roles is required.

Direct Experience:

•Analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture, layout, board bring-up and debugging, component library maintenance

•Design for EMC compliance per IEC 61326-1 or similar, including test approach/strategies

•Design for electrical safety compliance per IEC 61010-1 or similar

•Embedded system development with a variety of processing platforms (e.g., Microchip, NXP, TI, STM, ARM), with experience in C/C++ programming (typical hardware includes motors, sensors, I/O, and integration of SOMs, LCDs and touch screens, etc.)

•HW and SW architecture recommendations (system level design)

•Embedded Linux development, from integration of BSPs and kernel customization, to full embedded application including UI

•Code reviews and development of test protocols for SW verification to ensure adherence to coding standards, maintainability, and reliability

•Working within design controls of ISO 13485 Quality Management Systems and under FDA cGMP regulations, including ISO 14971 for product risk management

•Software (and firmware) life cycle development processes and documentation per IEC 62304

•Design for, sustain, and operate within a production/manufacturing environment
