  • Pay Rate: $113.08/hour, depending on experience
  • Contract Length: 1 year with High Chance of extension

Raise is currently hiring (2) two P&C Commissioning & Technical Services – Transmission – Stations on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description 

The P&C Commissioning & Technical Services Engineer in this role will provide advanced technical support and commissioning acceptance for Protection and Control (P&C) systems across the transmission network. This role is critical in ensuring the reliability of the organizations grid, involving high-complexity assignments in substations with operating voltages ranging from 12kV to 500kV.  As a subject matter expert (SME), you will bridge the gap between planning, design, and field operations, ensuring that P&C equipment is installed, modified, and commissioned to the highest safety and technical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Commissioning & Field Support
    • Acceptance Services: Perform commissioning acceptance for P&C equipment in T&D substations (12kV–500kV).
    • Field Reviews: Conduct field reviews of installations and modifications, providing guidance to Communications, Protection and Control (CPC) technologists.
    • Documentation: Review, accept, and seal commissioning documentation. Author and update P&C commissioning standards.
    • SME Advisory: Act as the P&C subject matter expert for project teams dealing with high-complexity system integration.
  • Technical Services & System Analysis
    • Disturbance Analysis: Investigate and analyze major system disturbances and abnormal conditions to recommend corrective actions.
    • Operations Support: Conduct technical studies and data interpretation to support real-time grid operations, including the formulation of operating procedures and contingency plans.
    • System Monitoring: Lead P&C system integration testing and wide-area system monitoring initiatives.
    • Maintenance Standards: Identify and develop modifications to P&C maintenance standards to improve system longevity and reliability.
  • Project & Quality Management
    • Engineering Excellence: Develop safe engineering solutions for medium to highly complex assignments, exercising independent judgment to resolve unusual design or field problems.
    • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate across business units including Integrated Planning, Grid Operations, Field Operations, and Asset Management.
    • Safety & Budget: Meet cost, quality, and time objectives by managing work schedules, recommending contractor payments, and providing detailed progress reports.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent with a deep understanding of power system parameters (impedance, fault levels, symmetrical components) and protection philosophy (differential, distance, overcurrent).
  • 4 years of P&C Commissioning experience
  • Knowledge of P&C testing and commissioning best practices, experience working in a field environment, and experience in fault analysis and investigations is required.
  • Experience with substation equipment ranging from 12kV to 500kV. This includes understanding transformers, circuit breakers, and instrument transformers (CTs/VTs).
  • Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, and strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Focus areas usually include Power Systems or Control Systems.
    • P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
  • Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken
  • Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, and strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.

Additional Information 

  • This position requires significant travel to construction sites and field environments.
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
