CAD 2 – Transmission Station CADD – Drafter

  • Pay Rate: $31.50/hour, depending on experience
  • Contract Length: 6 Months 
  • Location: Edmonds British Columbia 

Raise is currently hiring a CAD 2 – Transmission Station CADD – Drafter on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description 

 The CAD 2 – Transmission Station Drafter in this role will be responsible for creating and revising complex 2D and 3D engineering models and drawings. This role supports the lifecycle of high-voltage transmission station projects the organization ensuring all technical documentation aligns with provincial utility standards and engineering specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Design & Modeling
    • Develop and maintain detailed 2D and 3D CAD models specifically for Transmission Station disciplines, including Civil/Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, Protection & Control (P&C), and Telecom.
    • Produce specialized technical documentation such as isolation/operate drawings, crossing permits, right-of-way permits, and elevation profiles.
    • Calculate precise dimensions, elevations, slopes, base loads, and material quantities to ensure design accuracy and safety.
  • Standards & Quality Assurance
    • Apply tools, guides, and standards to all drafting tasks.
    • Identify non-standard situations where existing CADD standards may need adjustment and collaborate with senior team members to find solutions.
    • Perform rigorous quality checks on drawings to flag conflicting data or non-standard designs for the Engineer or Designer of record.
  • Project Support & Procurement
    • Analyze minimal engineering instructions to determine project-specific requirements for drawing layouts.
    • Support the procurement process by creating detailed drawings for vendor tendering to illustrate required materials and equipment specifications.
    • Maintain and organize project files within a formal Drawing Management System to ensure data security and version control.
  • Leadership & Collaboration
    • Participate in technical committees or working groups to develop new CADD standards, manuals, or block libraries.
    • Provide on-the-job orientation and technical guidance to CAD 1 team members.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of progressive drafting experience, preferably within a utility, heavy industrial, or transmission environment.
  • Proven experience in a CAD 1 capacity (or equivalent) is required.
  • Advanced CADD Proficiency: Expert-level skills in industry-standard software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Inventor) for both 2D and 3D applications.
  • Ability to conduct independent research into equipment specifications and historical engineering standards.
  • Strong mathematical skills for calculating complex slopes, scales, and clearances.
  • Clear technical writing and illustration skills for tendering and cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Education
  • Diploma in Drafting from a recognized technical institute or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Information

  •  May involve occasional site visits to transmission stations to verify field conditions or perform basic survey tasks.
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
