Construction Technologist
- Pay Rate: $63.70/hour, depending on experience
- Contract Length: 1 Year
- Location: Prince George, British Columbia
Raise is currently hiring a Construction Technologist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The Construction Technologist in this role will be responsible for the end-to-end technical planning and financial accuracy of construction projects. This role bridges the gap between engineering design and field execution by preparing precise cost estimates, developing complex work schedules, and providing technical guidance to field crews. The incumbent ensures that all projects—specifically within generation, substation, and transmission facilities—are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all relevant safety and engineering codes.
Responsibilities
- Estimating & Costing:
- Prepares detailed cost estimates based on engineering specs and contract conditions.
- Performs quantity takeoffs and calculates direct costs for materials and components.
- Researches and recommends methods to minimize labor/equipment costs and schedule impacts.
- Applies established markups to ensure full overhead recovery.
- Assesses risk situations and incorporates them into the pricing process.
- Scheduling & Project Control:
- Prepares work schedules and coordinates activities for assigned projects.
- Maintains project progress data (graphs, charts, etc.) and monitors discrepancies.
- Reviews Cost/Progress Reports to compare projected costs vs. estimated costs.
- Evaluates how scheduling changes will impact overall project costs.
- Documentation & Procurement:
- Compiles pay items for bid submissions and sub-contract tender documents.
- Obtains technical info and pricing from suppliers for equipment and materials.
- Prepares documentation for the procurement of materials and subcontracts.
- Maintains up-to-date records of equipment costs and production rates.
- Technical & Field Support:
- Provides technical advice and coordination to field crews and project teams.
- Reviews drawings, specifications, and material lists.
- May perform site surveys, drafting/design drawings, or operate electrical testing equipment.
- Verifies quantity calculations made by others to ensure accuracy.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in construction and/or project management. (filed or office)
- Previous experience with supporting construction
- Advanced computer skills for estimating, scheduling, costing, and project management systems.
- Basic drafting and design skills.
- Excellent knowledge of Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical disciplines (plus working knowledge of a second discipline).
- Deep understanding of standards, codes, and construction of generation, substation, and transmission/distribution facilities.
- Proficiency in project management principles and accounting processes.
- Valid class five (5) driver's license and have their own vehicle to complete site visits
- Education and Skills
- Diploma of Technology from an institute of technology or Degree in a construction-related field such as Engineering, Forestry, Architecture, Project Management, Construction Management, Business Administration or Quantity Surveying; or a related trades qualification (such as Electrician, Winder, Power Line Technician, General Trades 1 or Millwright).
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to provide technical direction to construction trades.
- Strong leadership and team participation skills.
Additional Information
- Full time in the Prince George office with site visits (After 6 months, potential to work from home 1 day per week)
- Site visits within the Northern Interior as required.
- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
- Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
