We are seeking an experienced Sr Engineering Specialist High Voltage & Interconnection to lead and deliver technical expertise for utility-scale power generation projects, including solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). In this senior role, you will oversee critical project components such as transmission lines and high-voltage (HV) electrical systems, ensuring reliable and compliant interconnection of power generation facilities to utility power grids. You will play a key role in driving innovation, system reliability, and regulatory compliance across complex renewable energy infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities
* Lead execution activities related to design, construction, and commissioning, and support the development of Generator Interconnection Agreements (GIAs) with utilities, Independent System Operators (ISOs), and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs).
* Review and optimize HV/MV substation designs, collection systems, transmission lines, and electrical equipment specifications, including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and battery storage systems.
* Conduct or review power system studies such as power flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, protection coordination, and grounding, ensuring alignment with applicable codes, standards, and company specifications.
* Serve as the technical interface between internal teams and external stakeholders, including consultants, EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, and vendors.
* Support HV equipment procurement by developing technical bid packages, reviewing vendor submissions, optimizing equipment selection, and contributing technical expertise throughout sourcing activities.
* Provide technical leadership and support during construction and commissioning, including office-based and on-site oversight, quality control, acceptance testing, and system integration.
* Contribute to project reporting and tracking of key milestones, proactively identifying and escalating technical or execution risks as needed.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Professional Engineer (PE – US) or P.Eng. (Canada) required, with a strong preference for Electrical Engineering.
* Minimum of 8 years of experience; 10-15+ years of progressively responsible technical and leadership experience preferred.
* Direct experience with utility-scale power system design, integration, and interconnection across North American ISOs.
* Broad background combining both field/site and office-based engineering experience.
* Strong collaborative and value-driven mindset, balancing technical excellence with cost, schedule, and full lifecycle asset considerations.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead discussions and meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
* Valid driver’s license required and subject to verification through a motor vehicle record check prior to hire.
* Ability to work in an office environment with periodic field work.
* Willingness to travel approximately 10%, with travel increasing to up to 25% during peak project periods.
* Ability to perform physical activities such as light to moderate lifting (up to 20 pounds), kneeling, reaching, prolonged sitting or standing, repetitive motion, and extended computer use.
* Ability to meet mental demands including understanding complex technical information, problem-solving, prioritizing work, making moderate-impact decisions, preparing routine documentation, and communicating effectively via written and verbal methods.
