Job Overview
- Be responsible for and supervise a section comprising professional and technical staff engaged in project modification and site maintenance activities in a multi-unit nuclear generating facility.
- Provide leadership in project management including design, cost schedule, quality, material control and contract work.
- Be responsible for optimization of project implementation. Participate in strategic planning, budgeting and training programs.
- Supervise professional and technical staff as assigned. Plan organize, schedule, and coordinate work of staff.
- Assign tasks and provide instructions as required.
- Check work of assigned staff to ensure good quality, accuracy, and productivity.
- Develop work methods.
- Make effective recommendations to Supervisor regarding staff issues in specified areas such as training, transfer, promotion, selection and coaching.
- Conduct performance appraisal interviews and submit written appraisals to Supervisor for review/ approval.
- Provide advice and administer, diagnose and solve problems associated with specific project elements.
- Define project objectives, scope, estimates, schedules, work plans and all resource requirements, (including equipment and staffing). Integrate the efforts of all persons and stakeholders contributing to a project.
- Coordinate and implement project technical work/solutions, and initiate the acquisition of appropriate approvals, as required in support of the operation and maintenance of the facilities.
- Receive assignments from Supervisor; consult with same, as required to identify potential problems and opportunities in assigned areas and/or systems in the facility.
- Discuss installations or implementation of the proposals with persons/stakeholders concerned, and ensure, where possible, that the installation, etc., meets intentions and requirements specified.
- Execute technical surveillance program as required in assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Review proposals received from internal or external sources related to assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Discuss proposal with originator as necessary to suggest changes or revisions as appropriate.
- Recommend disposition of proposal to Supervisor in writing for review, and forward to approving authority.
- Participate in training programs to further own development and the development of staff (including junior) and others in terms of systems and equipment knowledge, including Department procedures related to same.
- Lead the application of quality principles to the work of the Unit, through enhanced service and team approach.
- Contribute to the preparation of the Department's annual budget. Be required to provide cost estimates for new products and update costs of existing projects for input into Departmental budgets. Monitor actual project costs, and investigate and explain variances. Assist in the preparation of financial justification for the release of project funds.
Qualifications
- Nuclear security clearance in good standing.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with managing Nuclear Projects.
- Experience in project management tools and methods.
- Proven experience supervising project and/or engineering staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with vendors and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
