Senior Electrical Engineer in this role will join the Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) Assurance team. In this pivotal role, you will act as a strategic advisor, ensuring our grid operations and planning remain resilient and compliant within the North American regulatory landscape. You will bridge the gap between complex engineering operations and regulatory expectations, representing our clients interests with bodies like WECC and NERC while fostering a culture of technical excellence and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Leadership: Interpret Operations & Planning (O&P) standards and advise business units on risk, controls, and compliance expectations.
  • External Advocacy: Represent BC Hydro in communications with WECC and other regulatory bodies; build peer-utility relationships to stay ahead of oversight trends.
  • Standards Strategy: Monitor emerging standards for impact, lead internal reviews, and coordinate corporate responses to regulatory shifts.
  • Governance & Assurance: Conduct technical compliance assessments and control testing. Evaluate narratives and evidence to ensure they meet the highest standards of rigor.
  • Technical Advisory: Collaborate with operations and planning teams to align technical grid practices with regulatory mandates.
  • Incident Management: Lead incident investigations from a compliance perspective and make final determinations on regulatory reporting.
  • Mentorship: Deliver training and coaching to enhance organizational readiness and mentor junior staff in the nuances of MRS.        

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in the electric utility industry, with significant senior-level experience specifically in compliance and O&P standards.
  • Deep knowledge of NERC O&P frameworks. Familiarity with governance frameworks such as EEI and WECC is a significant asset.
  • Familiarity with maintenance, planning, real-time operations, vegetation and other activities related to the
  • electrical grid (an asset)..
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing.
  • The ability to simplify complex technical standards into actionable guidance for diverse stakeholders.
  • Education and Certifications
  • A university degree in a relevant field—or equivalent experience in Mandatory Reliability Standards compliance.
  • P.Eng and will and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired          

Additional Information

  • Preferences for candidates located in the lower mainland that would be able to work a hybrid schedule, however may consider remote candidates across Canada available for Meetings in PST.
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
