Construction Technologist
- Pay Rate: $63.74/hour, depending on experience
- Contract Length: 1 Year
- Location: Surrey, British Columbia ( lower mainland)
Raise is currently hiring a Construction Technologist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
As a Construction Technologist in this role you will bridge the gap between engineering design and field execution. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our capital projects—ranging from high-voltage substations to generation facilities—are planned with precision, estimated accurately, and coordinated efficiently in the field. You will act as a technical linchpin, translating complex specifications into actionable work packages while maintaining rigorous control over costs and schedules.
Responsibilities
- Estimating & Cost Control
- Detailed Estimating: Prepare comprehensive cost estimates by analyzing engineering specs, contract conditions, and historical productivity rates.
- Quantity Takeoffs: Execute precise material takeoffs; calculate direct costs for labor, equipment, and materials.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential project risks and incorporate appropriate contingencies into pricing and work plans.
- Financial Oversight: Review Cost/Progress reports to compare actuals against estimates; analyze the financial impact of scheduling changes.
- Project Planning & Scheduling
- Coordination: Develop detailed work schedules and coordinate activities for assigned projects to minimize labor/equipment downtime.
- Procurement Support: Prepare documentation for the procurement of specialized construction materials, equipment, and subcontracts.
- Technical Reporting: Maintain real-time progress data (graphs, charts) and advise management on discrepancies or required plan deviations.
- Field Coordination & Technical Support
- Field Advisory: Provide technical direction to field crews and internal/external resources regarding construction methods and standards.
- Design & Survey: Perform site surveys and prepare or modify technical drawings (drafting) as required for site-specific needs.
- Quality Assurance: Operate electrical testing equipment and compile technical reports to ensure work meets ’s high standards.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in construction and/or project management. (filed or office)
- Strong familiarity with Substation, Generation, or Transmission & Distribution infrastructure.
- Knowledge of one primary discipline (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical) with a working understanding of a second.
- Expert-level skills in construction estimating, scheduling software, and project management tools.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to explain financial aspects to technical staff and lead project teams.
- Must hold a valid class five (5) driver's license and have their own vehicle to complete site visits
- Education and Certifications
- Diploma of Technology from an institute of technology or Degree in a construction-related field such as Engineering, Forestry, Architecture, Project Management, Construction Management, Business Administration or Quantity Surveying; or a related trades qualification (such as Electrician, Winder, Power Line Technician, General Trades 1 or Millwright).
Additional Information
- Full time in the Surrey office with site visits (After 6 months, potential to work from home 2 days per week) Site visits across BC as required.
- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
- Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
