Power Accounting Analyst II

Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.
Overview
* Accounting related position on the Liquids Pipeline system power accounts management team.
* Responsible for providing a wide range of expense accounting services, utility power bill verification and processing, cost and variance analysis reporting, data management, and other accounting support functions.
Responsibilities
* Provide basic power accounting and operational support to the enterprise through:
* Administering monthly power accruals and estimates, cost and variance reporting standards and related processes, e.g., extract system operating data from Plant Information, analyze and check power bills for accuracy, complete variance analysis between General Ledger and internal tracking files, allocate power bills from utilities into the appropriate business unit entity, analyze possible sources of discrepancy, etc.
* Work with accounts payable to assist processing monthly invoices for utility power bills for client’s Liquids Pipelines system across North America.
* Providing frontline support for basic inquiries from internal stakeholders, e.g., follow-up with utility company representatives to get updates and clarify discrepancies in power bills, etc.
* Coordinating and supporting the flow of information to stakeholders internally and externally, e.g. utility company contract negotiations, explain, estimate power costs, provide necessary documentation for internal and external auditors for testing sample invoices and SOx controls, etc.
* Comply with established power accounting processes/procedures, e.g., enter power bill information, gather and compile historical power cost and energy usage information necessary to conduct variance analysis, ensure bill verification and reporting to comply with SOx regulations, etc.
* Assisting with studies of continuous improvement of the enterprise’s power accounting systems and processes, e.g. streamline inter-department support functions.
Required Qualifications:
* Completion of an Accounting/Business Degree or Diploma.
* Minimum of 4-6 years of accounting-related experience in the oil and gas industry.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for variance analysis and resolution of discrepancies.
* Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Excel (Pivots/Lookup/etc.)
* Experience with Oracle accounting systems.
* Ability to learn proprietary software, company databases, enterprise structure, and standard operating procedures.
* A curious and detail-oriented mindset with a passion for continuous learning.
* Intermediary interpersonal skills with ability to communicate verbally and written using tact and diplomacy.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Crude oil or gas pipeline experience.
* Knowledge of electric utility rate structures.
* Proficiency with PowerBI and data manipulation is an asset.
