Security Consultant – DDoS & WAF (Cloudflare / F5)

- Pay Rate: $100/hr -$110/hr

Responsibilities:
Security Architecture & Design
- Design and implement DDoS protection architecture using Cloudflare.
- Architect and deploy F5 Web Application Firewall (WAF) solutions.
- Develop secure reference architectures for internet-facing healthcare applications and APIs.
Implementation & Engineering
- Lead hands-on deployment and configuration of Cloudflare and F5 solutions.
- Configure WAF rulesets, signatures, bot defense, and API protection policies.
- Implement DDoS runbooks, failover mechanisms, and traffic diversion strategies.
- Integrate WAF/DDoS telemetry into SIEM/SOC platforms for monitoring and incident response.
Healthcare & Government Security Compliance
- Align security controls with applicable standards and Canadian healthcare regulatory frameworks.
- Support risk assessments, threat modeling, and security reviews, as needed.
Security Operations & Incident Response Integration
- Experience in developing operational procedures and playbooks for handling DDoS attacks and web application threats.
- Collaborate with SOC teams on alert tuning, incident triage, and mitigation workflows, as needed.
Stakeholder Engagement & Documentation
- Produce design documents, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks.
- Present technical and executive-level briefings on security posture and mitigation strategies.
Required Qualifications
- 8–10 years of cybersecurity experience with a focus on application and network security engineering.
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing DDoS mitigation using Cloudflare.
- Strong implementation experience with F5 BIG-IP ASM/Advanced WAF.
- Experience integrating WAF/DDoS logs with SIEM platforms.
- Familiarity with OWASP Top 10, MITRE ATT&CK, and threat modeling methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Cloudflare Magic Transit, API Shield, and Bot Management.
- Hands-on experience with F5 LTM, iRules, and automation via APIs.
- Experience with DevSecOps and CI/CD security integration.
- Knowledge of Canadian healthcare security/privacy frameworks.

Technical/Product Certifications:
- F5 Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) – ASM / Advanced WAF
- F5 Certified BIG-IP Administrator
- Cloudflare Technical Certifications
Cybersecurity Certifications (Preferred)
- CISSP
- CCSP
- CISM or CISA
Network/Security Certifications (Preferred)
- CCNP Security
- CompTIA Security+ or CySA+
Core Skills & Competencies
- Strong hands-on engineering mindset.
- Deep understanding of application-layer attack vectors and mitigation techniques.
- Ability to balance security, performance, and user experience in healthcare environments.
- Strong documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
