Solution Architect
Pay Rate: $99/hour, depending on experience
Contract Length: 12 months
Location: Calgary AB
Raise is currently hiring a contract Solution Architect on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our client, is a major Canadian airline.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to design and guide the delivery of scalable, secure, and reliable solutions across a diverse technology landscape. The Solution Architect will work closely with product, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into well-architected solutions aligned with enterprise strategy.
While this role is broad and covers end-to-end solution architecture, experience with Observability (monitoring, logging, tracing, and operational visibility) is highly valued and will be applied to improve system reliability, performance, and operational maturity across platforms.
Responsibilities
Solution Architecture & Design
- Design end-to-end solutions across applications, integrations, data, and infrastructure
- Translate business and non-functional requirements into architectural designs
- Produce solution architecture diagrams, design documentation, and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs)
- Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, and cost-effective
Observability & Operational Readiness
- Embed observability best practices into solution designs (metrics, logs, traces, alerts)
- Ensure solutions meet operational, reliability, and supportability requirements
- Partner with engineering and SRE teams to define SLIs/SLOs and monitoring strategies
- Drive a “build it, run it” mindset through architectural guidance
Governance & Standards
- Align solutions with enterprise architecture standards, reference architectures, and roadmaps
- Participate in architecture reviews and provide design guidance across teams
- Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements
- Identify and manage architectural risks and technical debt
Delivery & Enablement
- Collaborate with delivery teams throughout the lifecycle—from design through implementation
- Provide architectural direction to development teams and unblock complex technical challenges
- Enable reuse through shared patterns, templates, and platform capabilities
- Support cloud, DevOps, and CI/CD practices
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to product owners and business partners
- Clearly communicate architectural decisions and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Influence without direct authority across multiple teams
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, systems design, or architecture roles
- 3+ years in a Solution Architect or equivalent role
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, integrations, and APIs
- Experience designing solutions across cloud, on-prem, or hybrid environments
- Practical experience with observability concepts: monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting
- Familiarity with observability tools and platforms (e.g., Dynatrace, Datadog, Splunk, OpenTelemetry)
- Understanding of reliability, incident management, and operational metrics
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
- Knowledge of microservices, containers, and event-driven or asynchronous architectures
- Infrastructure as Code and DevOps practices are an asset
Education and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in IT or any related field.
- Event-driven or messaging platform exposure
- Security, identity, or data architecture experience
- Cloud or architecture certifications
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities
- Ability to influence and guide teams without direct authority
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to architectural maturity
- Comfortable operating in complex, cross-team environments
