Responsibilities:
TECHNICAL:
• Contributes to the development and modification of hardware application designs; identifies, interprets and
documents the requirements and selects an appropriate design approach.
• Participates in the definition of development strategies to maximize re-use of product.
• Ensures the integrity of all design documentation.
• Contributes to the resolution of hardware issues in-house and at project sites.
• Contributes to process improvements related to hardware applications.
• Supports the installation and field testing to ensure overall success of the technical implementation.
• Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness and knowledge in the primary discipline in solving problems.
• Follows instructions to carry out basic technical tasks and HW CAD for primarily electrical and some mechanical designs.
• Demonstrates a good level of logical reasoning resulting in effective hardware application designs, products and processes.
• Completes work in a timely manner and is confident to ask questions to help complete tasks quickly and correctly.
• Selects an appropriate design approach.
• Maximizes the use of existing design.
COMMUNICATION:
• Articulates technical questions concisely so that they can be reviewed and approved by the management team.
• Promotes a harmonious working relationship among group members.
Key Requirements: Skills, Experience, Education, Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Certifications, Language
• Post-secondary Technologist diploma or Electrical or Electronics Engineering degree.
• 3-5 years of related work experience.
• A good level of knowledge in electrical theory and systems, along with a strong understanding of CAD.
• Proficient with the use of CAD tools (Microstation, AutoCad), Bills of Materials (SAP), Configuration
Management, Hitachi Change Control Process (Clearquest), and Microsoft Office suite.
• Good interpersonal and diplomatic skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level within the organization, and the customer.
• Well-developed verbal skills in English to interact effectively and professionally in a variety of forums.
• Well-developed writing skills in English to prepare clear effective documents.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Maintains a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others.
• Locates and researches source documentation for design activities.
• Makes timely decisions, both independently and in concert with others.
• 5+ years of experience (preferred)
• Rail signaling experience
• Design experience with an electrical background
• Professional Engineering License or equivalent certification
Must have skills:
• 5+ years of experience in Hardware rail signaling design
• If the candidate comes from a rail signaling background, strong hands-on hardware design experience
• If the candidate does not have rail signaling experience, the manager is open to profiles with strong electrical design experience, specifically in Panel Design and PLC Design. However, candidates focused mainly on FPGA design, PCB/PCP design, or electronic sub-component design should be filtered out, as those backgrounds may not align with the higher-level electrical hardware design requirements of this role.
• Must have experience with (MicroStation, AutoCAD) Bills of Materials (SAP)
• Project management experience
