Senior Crown Royalty Analyst (Oil Sands Royalty Audit)
- Pay Rate: $77.63 to $94.71/hour, depending on experience

Raise is currently hiring a Senior Crown Royalty Analyst (Oil Sands Royalty Audit) on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, the third largest producer of Canadian oil and natural gas and the second largest refiner and upgrader with extensive midstream and downstream infrastructure.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The Senior Crown Royalty Analyst (Oil Sands Royalty Audit) in this role will support the execution of Alberta Crown royalty audits related to End of Period Statements (EOPS) as part of the Royalty Accounting team’s audit function. This role is focused on delivering accurate, timely, and well-supported audit responses within a defined term while helping manage audit risk and compliance with regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will bring strong audit and royalty expertise to quickly integrate into ongoing audit activities, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, including Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA), to address audit inquiries, support dispute resolution, and maintain consistency in the application of royalty legislation.
Responsibilities
- Audit & Assurance
- Support the execution and coordination of TRA audit requests related to oil sands royalty EOPS reporting for active and recently divested projects
- Interpret and apply royalty regulations and industry guidance to support audit responses and adjustments
- Prepare and review audit responses to ensure accuracy, completeness, and clarity within established timelines
- Coordinate the EOPS amendment submission process resulting from audit findings with the broader team
- Support the preparation and resolution of Crown audit disputes, including documentation and analysis
- Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze audit findings to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvement
- Synthesize and communicate audit outcomes and key insights to support ongoing audit activities and continuous improvement
- Contribute to the preparation of quarterly audit summaries and reporting for senior management
- Deliver targeted analysis and support special projects aligned with audit priorities during the contract term
- Stakeholder Management
- Partner cross-functionally with Marketing, Legal, Engineering, and Accounting teams to gather required information and support timely audit responses
- Serve as a key liaison with TRA auditors, supporting communication and coordination throughout audit cycles
- Build effective working relationships to enable efficient audit execution and issue resolution within tight timelines
Qualifications
- 10+ years of accounting experience, preferably including oil sands royalty and crude oil marketing
- Strong working knowledge of oil sands royalty regulations (OSRR 2009, OSACR, Mines & Minerals Act)
- Demonstrated experience supporting audit processes and regulatory compliance
- Ability to clearly articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences
- Proven ability to quickly adapt, prioritize, and deliver in a deadline-driven environment
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience with SAP, and knowledge of JDE
- Education and Certifications
- Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting or Finance) or equivalent experience
- CPA designation is an asset
