Senior Project Manager (Insurance Technology Transformation)

Senior Project Manager (Insurance Technology Transformation)

  • Contract Length: 6 months with possible extension
  • Work Type: Remote

Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

About the client

Our client is a specialty insurance and benefits administrator with about 250 employees. It serves as a third-party administrator (TPA) for major life insurance carriers and runs accident and travel insurance programs. It belongs to a larger insurance platform that grows through acquisition. Its teams sit in Arizona and California.

About the role

You take the driver's seat on a portfolio of technology projects at the center of a major transformation. You take over projects already in flight, reset them, and drive them to the finish line.

The work sits between business and technology. You don't write code. You understand the technology well enough to turn business needs into clear work and guide technical teams to deliver it.

The projects

  • Intelligent document processing (IDP). Implement a vendor platform that automates document intake.
  • Claims portal. Build a new claims portal alongside the IDP system.
  • Payments platform. Launch a credit card payment platform with a major bank partner.
  • Financial interfaces. Build interfaces that connect core platforms to financial systems.
  • Product development. Deliver new products on the current platform, plus a set of smaller projects.

What you do

  • Own projects from start to close: intake, planning, delivery, launch, and results.
  • Set clear commitments with named owners and dates. Hold everyone to them.
  • Run steering committees, weekly status updates, and risk reviews.
  • Track scope, schedule, and budget against a baseline. Use earned value or similar measures to show where each project stands.
  • Turn requests from marketing and operations teams into clear requirements with business analysts (BAs) and systems analysts.
  • Lead a team of about 15 engineers, developers, BAs, and analysts, plus an offshore development partner.
  • Put the project standards set by technology leadership into daily practice. Help the team adopt them.
  • Spot compliance impacts early. Work with compliance and the business to address them.

What you bring

  • 10+ years of project or program management.
  • Technology projects delivered in insurance or financial services, ideally tied to the product life cycle, claims, portals, or policy systems.
  • Working knowledge of financial services regulation and how it shapes project scope.
  • A track record of taking over in-flight or struggling projects and turning them around.
  • Executive presence. You push back with facts and keep leaders informed.
  • Clear, concise writing and speaking.
  • Comfort with waterfall, agile, or hybrid delivery. You pick what fits the project.
  • Enough technical depth to discuss application programming interfaces (APIs), integrations, data, and machine learning concepts with engineers.
  • Experience with Jira.

Nice to have

  • Document automation, optical character recognition (OCR), or IDP projects.
  • Claims or customer portal delivery.
  • Payment platforms and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance.
  • Life, accident, or travel insurance, or TPA experience. Property and casualty experience transfers too.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification.
  • Formal earned value management experience.

Why this role

You step into projects that matter to the business right now. Leadership wants someone who stays and grows with the team, so this contract is built to last. If you like bringing order to a busy portfolio, this role fits.
