Crude Marine Scheduler

Crude Marine Scheduler

  • Contract Length: 12 months
  • Location: Spring, TX  77389

Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Overview

You keep crude oil moving safely across the world’s oceans. You own a desk and a trade lane, with cargoes loading in places like Brazil, the U.S. Gulf Coast, Canada, and the West Coast, and sailing to Europe and Asia. Every day you work with traders, vessel owners, brokers, and terminals to keep cargoes on time and on budget. You succeed when your cargoes arrive without costly delays and your partners trust the information you give them.

We’re filling two openings. One is for an experienced marine scheduler. The other is for an earlier-career scheduler with liquid fuel scheduling experience who wants to learn marine.

Responsibilities

  • Manage six to 10 active crude cargoes each month on your assigned desk and follow through on cargoes from past months.
  • Plan cargo schedules that avoid costly delays, such as ship refueling (bunkering) holdups, cargo loading issues, and moving ships out of position.
  • Talk with traders, operators, brokers, vessel owners, and terminals every day to line up schedules and fix problems.
  • Act as the main contact for voyage and supply updates and solve issues on your own when you can.
  • Handle voyage operations and the records that go with them and keep data accurate in SAP or similar systems.
  • Protect cargo value by tracking demurrage (fees charged when a ship waits past the agreed time), oil loss, and claims.
  • Screen vessels and terminals for safety, start incident reports when needed, and work with technical teams.
  • Spot ways to improve marine processes and tools and help put changes in place.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1+ year of scheduling liquid fuels, such as crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), or clean petroleum products. This can come from marine, pipeline, rail, terminal, refining, trading, chartering, or vessel operations work.
  • Experience with liquid cargoes (dry cargo experience alone doesn’t apply)
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to juggle competing priorities
  • Clear spoken and written communication with many groups each day
  • A team player who learns established processes and takes direction well
  • Able to work onsite in Spring, Texas, five days a week

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of marine scheduling experience
  • Crude oil experience
  • Maritime industry background
  • Experience with SAP or a commercial scheduling or trading system
  • Working knowledge of demurrage, oil loss, and cargo claims
  • Experience supporting commodity or freight traders
