Job Overview:
The Senior GIS Developer is responsible for designing, developing, configuring, and supporting enterprise GIS solutions across the Esri ArcGIS platform. This role supports ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal, web applications, and mobile applications by delivering solutions through configuration, automation, integration, and custom development based on business requirements. The position collaborates closely with business, operational, and field teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and user-focused GIS solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, develop, deploy, and support GIS solutions across ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal, web, and mobile environments.
- Configure and customize applications using ArcGIS Experience Builder, Dashboards, Field Maps, Survey123, and other Esri technologies.
- Develop custom web and mobile GIS capabilities when standard platform functionality does not meet business needs.
- Create and maintain web maps, feature services, map services, hosted layers, forms, offline workflows, and field data collection solutions.
- Build GIS applications and integrations using JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, ArcPy, ArcGIS API for Python, REST APIs, and related technologies.
- Integrate GIS applications and services with enterprise databases, APIs, and business systems.
- Translate business and field requirements into practical GIS solutions by determining the most effective combination of configuration, automation, extension, or custom development.
- Troubleshoot and optimize enterprise, web, and mobile GIS applications to ensure performance, reliability, security, and usability.
- Develop reusable tools, automation frameworks, technical standards, and documentation to support sustainable GIS application development.
- Provide senior-level technical guidance and collaborate with GIS, IT, business, and field teams throughout the solution lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience with the Esri ArcGIS ecosystem, including ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal, ArcGIS Pro, web GIS, and mobile GIS technologies.
- Experience configuring and developing solutions using ArcGIS Experience Builder, Dashboards, Field Maps, Survey123, and other Esri applications.
- Proficiency with JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, ArcPy, ArcGIS API for Python, REST APIs, and comparable GIS development technologies.
- Experience developing, publishing, and supporting GIS services, web maps, feature layers, and enterprise GIS applications.
- Experience designing and supporting mobile and offline GIS workflows for field operations.
- Strong understanding of enterprise application development, systems integration, troubleshooting, and solution lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable, and effective technical solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience in pipeline, energy, utilities, or other asset-intensive industries is considered an asset.
