IT Application Support Specialist – GIS Quality
- Pay Rate: $49.92/hour, depending on experience

Raise is currently hiring an IT Application Support Specialist – GIS Quality on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The IT Application Support Specialist in this role will support the project of cleaning and migrating the Fibre Database from Microsoft Access to a secure, cloud-based platform that will allow easy data sharing across teams and provide enhanced security features. This initiative also involves integrating data into the in-house Telecom Authorization System – Ruby on Rails (TAS), managing Smallworld GIS uploads, and adding data into ArcGIS for spatial analysis and mapping. To accomplish this, a short-term contractor is required (contract until March 31, 2026) with strong data analysis and preparation skills
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will focus on the following core project activities:
- Data Migration & Cleaning: Execute strong data analysis and preparation to clean, validate, and prepare the Fibre Database for migration from Microsoft Access to a new, secure cloud platform.
- System Integration: Design and implement data integration strategies, applying design skills to integrate the clean fibre data into the in-house Telecom Authorization System (TAS).
- Development Collaboration: Actively collaborate with TAS developers by leveraging experience in software development concepts to ensure accurate and efficient data flow and integration between the database and TAS.
- GIS Data Management: Manage and perform data uploads into Smallworld GIS and ensure accurate data is added to ArcGIS for spatial analysis, mapping, and reporting.
- Quality Assurance & Documentation: Produce clear, comprehensive technical and end-user documentation, including functional specifications, training materials, and testing documents.
- Technical Support: Provide specialized support to ensure smooth transition and high data quality throughout the migration and integration process.
Qualifications
- 3 years of production support and/or upgrade experience in IT Business Application Support or equivalent with Strong proficiency in data analysis and preparation techniques.
- Previous Utilities sector experience, engineering or software background, knowledge of Fibre Optics/Telecom ( preferred)
- Proven familiarity with GIS systems, including ArcGIS, and practical experience with Microsoft Access database management.
- Experience or strong understanding of software development principles for effective collaboration with developers (specifically on a Ruby on Rails application like TAS).
- Demonstrated design skills for successfully integrating data sets into enterprise application systems.
- Ability to produce clear, high-quality documentation (functional specs, testing/training docs).
- Intermediate working knowledge and excellent skills in adhering to divisional and ISO 9000 quality standards and documentation procedures.
- Education and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent.
- Excellent technical skills in troubleshooting and correcting issues, with advanced skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio, and Access)
- Excellent communication skills for a professional environment, both written and spoken.
Additional Information
- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
- Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
