Construction Technologist
- Pay Rate: $64.85/hour, depending on experience

Raise is currently hiring a Construction Technologist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The Construction Technologist In this role, will bridge the gap between engineering design, project management, and field operations. You will perform a variety of crucial duties related to planning, detailed estimating, scheduling, and field coordination for major utility construction activities.
Whether analyzing cost-to-progress metrics in the office or collaborating with trades crews on-site, your technical expertise in civil, mechanical, or electrical disciplines will ensure our generation, substation, and transmission/distribution projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Estimating & Cost Control
- Detailed Cost Estimating: Prepare comprehensive cost estimates by analyzing engineering specifications, drawings, and contract conditions. Research and recommend optimal methods to minimize labor, equipment, and scheduling impacts.
- Quantity Takeoffs: Complete material and component quantity takeoffs. Calculate direct costs using unit cost and productivity rate data, proactively factoring in project risks.
- Bid & Vendor Analysis: Compile schedules of pay items for estimates and bid submissions. Verify third-party quantity calculations and create comparative summaries of contractor submissions for bid analysis.
- Financial Tracking: Review Cost/Progress Reports to compare actual versus estimated costs. Assess the financial impact of scheduling changes and maintain up-to-date regional records for equipment, production rates, and material costs.
- Planning, Scheduling & Project Support
- Project Scheduling: Develop and maintain detailed work schedules and project progress data (graphs, charts, etc.), alerting managers to any critical variances or required plan changes.
- Procurement Coordination: Source technical specifications and pricing from suppliers; prepare essential documentation for purchasing construction materials, equipment, and subcontracts.
- Technical Reporting & Design: Create non-routine technical reports, utilizing electrical testing equipment when required. Perform basic drafting, site surveys, and design drawing modifications.
- Field Coordination & Team Leadership
- Field Liaison: Provide technical advice, work coordination, and clear direction to construction trades, field crews, and diverse internal/external stakeholders.
- Interdisciplinary Synergy: Act as a core member of construction project teams, leveraging strong interpersonal skills to discuss financial and technical project aspects with staff and negotiate with vendors.
Qualifications
- (5) years of experience in construction and/or project management (gained through either field-based or office-based roles).
- Excellent knowledge of either the Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical discipline, paired with a solid working knowledge of at least one other.
- Comprehensive knowledge of related codes and construction standards for generation, substation, and transmission & distribution facilities.
- Strong computer application skills relevant to design, project estimating, scheduling, costing, and project management, alongside basic drafting skills.
- Strong analytical capabilities to assess job costs; solid grounding in project management and basic accounting; and strong written communication skills for contract and requisition support.
- Direct experience supporting large-scale utility, infrastructure, or heavy industrial construction projects. (Nice-to-Have)
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and have access to a reliable personal vehicle to perform mandatory site visits throughout the Northern Interior region.
- Education and Certifications
- A Diploma of Technology from a recognized institute, OR
- A Degree in a construction-related field (e.g., Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Forestry, or Business Administration), OR
- A relevant Trades Qualification (e.g., Electrician, Power Line Technician, Winder, Millwright, or General Trades 1).
Additional Information
- In-office with regular site visits across the Northern Interior. Potential for a hybrid schedule (1–2 days working from home per week) after a successful 6-month onboarding period.
- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
- Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
