Occupational Health Nurse II
- Pay Rate: $37-$39/hour on W2 (Ohio) | $38-$40/hour on W2 (Texas)
- Contract Length: 12 months
- Location: Houston, TX 77079 or Akron, OH 44333 (Hybrid)
Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.
Overview
- Liaise with the disability management third party administrator and facilitate the return-to-work process following disability leave.
- Provide technical occupational health knowledge to support disability management process, fitness for work, workplace accommodation, and occupational injuries or illness.
- Liaise with the Workers Compensation bureaus and third-party insurance providers for Occupational injuries or illness.
Responsibilities
- Works independently in the management of disability claims utilizing occupational health expertise.
- Understand and apply Health Services policies and practices while networking with internal stakeholders to ensure Health Services STD and WCB policies and practices are aligned with other internal practices e.g. Health & Safety, Advisory Services, Payroll, etc.
- Provides technical knowledge in the management of the company’s Return to Work/Accommodation programs in the US.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to leave programs.
- Works closely with the Third-Party Administrator to supports day to day disability management.
- Coordinate return-to-work procedures for employees on leave, including required medical documentation and communication with leaders.
- Collaborating with Workers’ Compensation and Payroll to ensure accurate documentation and processing of leave information in time management systems.
- Networks with external stakeholders e.g. US monopolistic states, Insurance Providers and Third-Party Administrator(s) for disability and Workers Compensation programs.
- Networks with internal stakeholders i.e. Advisory Services, Labor Relations and Legal to ensure claims management practices are aligned with internal HR policies and collective agreement language.
- Provides input in changes required to the disability management processes based on operational knowledge of the disability management program.
- Responsible to ensure that the Health Services Parklane system data is accurate and action continuous improvement opportunities, as required.
- Maintains comprehensive confidential health records in the Parklane medical documentation system
- Builds effective business relationships with people leaders, employees and forms strong partnerships with Labor Relations, Union Representatives, Advisory Services and Health & Safety, as required.
- Maintains confidentiality of information obtained through execution of duties.
- Supports continuous improvement maximizing process effectiveness and efficiency.
- Provides coverage in other areas as needed to support continuity of the function.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum university degree in a related field i.e. healthcare or social work.
- High degree of accuracy, analytical skills.
- Disability Case Management and FMLA experience required.
- Detail oriented with experience managing complex leave scenarios.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment, high-volume environment while managing sensitive and confidential employee matters.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-developed prioritization and time management skills.
- Conveys facts and information clearly in both written and verbal communication – explains leave policies clearly and effectively to employees and leaders.
- Meticulous and organized – Ensures compliance with legal requirements, maintains accurate records, and tracks leave data with precision.
- Collaborative and proactive – Works closely with HR, Payroll, and Benefits teams to ensure seamless leave administration.
- Critical Thinker – Exercises sound judgment in navigating complex leaves situations and escalates issues appropriately.
- Ability to build and grow relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
- Require sound judgement in applying current and changing government legislation to current and future company procedures.
- Polite, courteous and respectful in interactions with others.
- Collects sufficient information to understand problems and issues.
- Demonstrates awareness of the business and the work group’s goals.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience administering corporate programs; specifically, drug and alcohol and leave administration programs.
- Good working knowledge of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
- Experience and knowledge of US employment law considered an asset.
